LoooSeR
https://iz.ru/955833/anton-lavrov-roman-kretcul-aleksei-ramm/voina-i-mi-spetcnaz-poluchit-letaiushchii-tank New modification of Mi-8 for SSO. Some parts from article. Note that under Hermes and Hermes-A article describes "LMUR"/Izdelie 305 missile that was shown last year. Quote This year, Russian special forces will receive /.../ a unique combat helicopter with the Mi-8AMTSH-VN index. Trials are slated for fall. /.../ In the most heavily armed version, helicopter will carry up to four super-long-range Hermes missiles, up to eight supersonic Ataka ATGMs, or up to two tons of aerial bombs. The combat load will allow the helicopter to hit ground, sea and air targets at a distance of up to 20 km. And modern avionics, optoelectronic systems, radars and thermal imagers will provide round-the-clock and all-weather use. Tests of the first prototypes of the new military transport helicopter are scheduled for autumn 2020. Most likely, testing will be held at the Combat Training and Retraining Center for Army Aviation in Torzhok, sources in the Defense Ministry told Izvestia. The decision on the initiative development of a helicopter for the Special Operations Forces (SSO) was made by the Mil Plant in 2017. In May 2018, the development work under the designation “Sapsan” was approved by the defense department. Over 800 million rubles have already been allocated for these purposes. The contract for the first 10 aircraft was signed with the Russian Helicopters holding at the Army forum last summer. The first model in the version with unguided weapons should be completed in early 2020. The second prototype - in the version with a full arsenal of guided missiles - is planned to be transferred to the SSO closer to the end of the year. /.../ With increased combat load, the helicopter is noticeably heavier. To compensate for the extra weight, vehicle is equipped with a more powerful engine modification than is put on the Mi-8AMTSh today. In its firepower, the Sapsan will surpass even the current attack helicopters. One of the types of weapons for it was declared "product 305". Earlier, in open sources, information appeared that under this designation is a promising long-range guided missile, Hermes-A, with a range of up to 20 km. This is twice as much as any other helicopter ATGMs currently in service with the VKS. Upgraded Ka-52M and Mi-28NM are planned to be equipped with such ammunition. In addition to the long-range Hermes, the new Sapsan will also be able to use the ATAK 9M120 Ataka conventional for attack helicopters in variants with a cumulative, high-explosive fragmentation and thermobaric warhead. Their range is about six kilometers. In addition to guided missiles, the Mi-8AMTSh-VN will be equipped with a set of unguided rockets, large-caliber machine guns, and containers with aircraft guns and automatic grenade launchers, which are usual for military transport vehicles. VN can also use bombs from 50 kg to 500 kg. In the most heavily armed version, the helicopter will carry up to four long-range “Hermes”, up to eight “Attacks” or up to 2 tons of aerial bombs or four modern air-to-air short-range missiles "Verba". A separate part of the development work is the creation of additional protection. The Sapsan cargo compartment will receive an add-on protection that will save people inside from small arms. Serial Mi-8AMTSh have protection only for pilots, rear machine gun installation and vital systems. In the new modification, armor will also cover special forces. The ability to work at any time of the day and in any weather will be given to the helicopter by the latest optical-electronic station GOES-321MK with a thermal imaging channel. Now these are installed on the Mi-35M. From it engineers will also take the OPS-24N-1L sighting system with a laser missile guidance system. It is necessary for the new combat vehicle to use its entire impressive arsenal of guided missiles. To protect against man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems, it is planned to install an optical-electronic suppression station L370V35MS from the Vitebsk family. The optional equipment includes equipment for receiving and processing information from drones, an airborne radar station and radar warning equipment. All electronic equipment will be combined on-board complex IBKV-17VP. Control panels and information displays are adapted for use with night vision goggles.
