Media: Japanese defense minister protests against deployment of troops in the Kurils

According to Kyodo, Tomomi Inada protested against the deployment of the Russian division on the southern Kuril Islands and the deployment of ground-to-ship missiles there.

In 2016, coastal rocket complexes "Bastion" and "Bal" were deployed on the South Kuril islands of Iturup and Kunashir. In 2015, anti-aircraft missile systems Tor-M2U were put on combat duty there. Now the possibility of creating a base of the Pacific Fleet on the islands of the Great Kuril chain is being studied.
In addition, in February the head of the Russian Defense Ministry said that this year it is planned to complete the formation of four new divisions, including for the protection of the Kuriles. This statement was negatively received in Tokyo, and the government of the country sent a protest to the Russian side, which noted that such a strengthening of Russia's military presence on the Kuril Islands does not correspond to Tokyo's position with respect to these territories. As the Russian side has repeatedly stated, the deployment of troops and missiles in the Kuriles is a sovereign right of the Russian Federation.

"Terror" incident.

Because let's not jump to obvious conclusions.

Our news outlets reported 3 dead and attacker killed. That is rather small "terrorist" attack. More like one of those US single-idiot shootings.

Effective police means that you can change a terrorist attack into an idiot-removal service with a small number of additional casualties.

Well there were 40 injured as well, according to the news reports that have come out. You can question the severity of some of those injuries. But it is still a pretty fucking major terrorist attack. Particularly when the Prime Minister was apparently 40 yards away at the time.

According to South China Morning Post sources, five army groups (armies) can be reduced as part of the ongoing military reform in the PLA. Four armies (14th, 47th, 20th and 27th) are supposed to be disbanded, and two more armies (40th and 16th) will be united. Some of the formations of the disbanded armies can be transferred to the Marine Corps of the Navy and the Airborne Forces of the PLA Air Force.

Something similar happens in Grozny time to time, only with RPGs and belft-fed GPMG.

Is your nation's Parliament building in Grozny with the entire heads of state visibly witnessing the attack?

That's the difference.

London =/= Grozny.

...

Yet.

I am surprised that nothing really serious still happened in UK taking into account how much immigrants were accepted without proper integration work. Terrorists can have a rather easy time with bomb-making and starting series of bus bombings or worse.

I chalk it up to their lack of a good old-fashioned Protestant work ethic.

The South China post story is interesting...

I wonder how many of those guys will wind up part of the Chinese Marines which China seems hell bent on standing up as quickly as possible. I'm very curious to see how that entire project works out. They certainly seem to have pretty solid pieces of kit as a foundation to build upon. To include their building new Zubr hovercraft.

On another site I mentioned that this also could be a sign of the Chinese government feeling more secure WRT it's own citizens.

A Chinese expat friend of mine really hammered home the idea that the Chinese army has for the most part been geared towards internal security more than anything else.

I also wondered out loud how many of them would wind up pulling security along the new silk road or various places in Africa.

Season 4 of HWNDU is over, another win for /hwndu/.  Shia moved it to the UK because he deemed the US unsafe, but weaponized autism is a global threat.

In "Jane's Defense Weekly" in the article Sean O'Connor "Spaceshot: Russia completes Iskander-M missile shelters in Kaliningrad, 54.649566 N 021.823556 E" satellite image taken on February 10, 2017 shows that at the site of the deployment of the 152nd Independent Guards Rocketry Brigade of the Armed Forces of Russia in Chernyakhovsk, Kaliningrad Region, eight new mobile shelters for the deployment of the 9K720 Iskander-M operational and tactical missile complex have been completed. This testifies to the plans of the Russian side to permanently deploy the Iskander-M missile system as part of the 152nd missile brigade in the Kaliningrad region.

The photo published by the magazine is made by the SPOT satellite of Airbus Defense and Space  company (directly received by the French National Center for Space Research - Center National d'Etudes Spatiales - CNES).

According to the magazine, construction of shelters was started at the site in October 2016, and six shelters were ready in January 2017, and two more - by early February. Each mobile shelter has a size of about 54 by 22 m. It is reported that in February and March there were works on the erection of at least five more shelters.

At present, the 152nd missile brigade is equipped with the 9K79-1 "Tochka-U", and it remains one of two Russian missile brigades (along with the 448th in Kursk), which preserves these complexes. Complexes "Iskander-M" to this time were transferred to Kaliningrad only temporarily for the period of the exercises. It can be assumed that the rearmament of the 152nd missile brigade at Iskander-M missile defense will take place in 2017 or 2018, although it is possible that for political reasons it will be postponed somewhat. Nevertheless, the infrastructure for Iskander-M in Chernyakhovsk is almost ready.
