Supposedly PSM wants to extend the hull of the Puma by 1 meter or more (incl. a seventh roadwheel pair) and integrate a manned turret.

According to this article the MOD has a written commitment from all four bidders that they are able to follow the requested specification. That means that PSM really must work on a prolonged Puma with manned turret.

It was said too much complex by PSM own representatives.

Something more related to the "Czech Puma". The time for formal objections has passed and all four bidders are still in. By the start of October the MOD shall receive preliminary offer including all items of the future contract.

Article from the MOD in English about the mandatory requirements: https://www.czdjournal.com/defence/16-uncrossable-requirements-for-the-new-czech-tracked-infantry-fighting-vehicles-194.html

Maybe the most interesting is the requirement for hard-kill APS with capability to cover 360° against at least three consecutive shots to the same place or a requirement for possible future up-arming with a higher caliber gun without exchange of the whole turret.

Spielberger mentions in his book about German SPAA's that the Gepard prototypes had spaced armour:

And in the pre-production series the tanks were lightened, but he doesn't mention the spaced armour configuration being deleted....

So, do the production variants still retain the spaced armour configuration?

Was this posted before? Anyway. Contains a few interesting facts. According to the driver of Saumur tank musum's Panther, the engine is actually quite accessible and easy to maintain. Then he tells of course about the steering system, which is - no surprise - problematic. Later the curator of the museum also tells about it, and he mentions the constant need to check the steering system, and the frequent adjustings required. Maybe this was the real reason behind the low service life of the final drives? Drivers without enough experience or training, so they didnt perform the checks and adjustments, which led to early final drive failures? The drive train wasnt perfect of course, but there is evidence that with experienced drivers, the final drives lasted far, far more than the mythical "150km" (actually I believe it is a typo in the original french report! 1500km should be the real value).
