Brig. Gen. Chris Donahue doesn't really say much here about the NGSW, but he does say 6.8mm is the intended caliber unless industry offers something better.

"Something better."

So....anything?

Article on Lobaev's arms long range shots and production, in russian.

The latest record shots from the modified rifle SVLK-14 "Sumrak" hit the target at a fantastic distance of 4210 m. "At the wheel" at that time was Andrei Ryabinsky, who beat the previous record of the chief engineer of "Lobaev" Yuri Sinichkin (4175 m). Especially for this record shot, the rifle was re-calibrated to a caliber.40 Lobaev Improved (based on the .408 Chey Tac) developed by Lobaev Arms.

Left one looks like that semi-auto sniper rifle in .408 Cheytac, IIRC.

Tell me please, what were the sizes of the target?

I heard that it was a wooden shield measuring 1x1 meter.

Yes, there was 1x1 m target and 3x5 meter backshield. Out of 4 rounds 2 hit 1x1 target and 2 hit 3x5 at 4210 meters.
