Post Election Thread: Democracy Dies In Darkness And You Can Help

That brings up a memory from last week during Rush Limbaugh's show, talking about this one woman author's plan to get Hillary into the "Big Chair" of the Oval Office. It was this convoluted sequence of:

  1. Mueller's special counsel finds hard evidence of Trump-Russia collusion
  2. Trump resigns or is impeached
  3. Pence, becoming president, is to resign since he benefited from the collusion
  4. Pence, in resigning before appointing a VP, allows Ryan to become President
  5. Ryan would then name Hillary his VP since she is the most deserving in light of the 2016 election
  6. Ryan, knowing his party's honor was stained by Russia, would then step down on Day 1
  7. Thus Hillary would become president

They just do not want to let it go, do they?

They are just writing fapping material for themselves at this point.

The only thing remotely realistic in this pipe dream would be Paul Ryan resigning in order to help Hillary...

But seriously, it is HARD to get rid of a sitting US President. You can't simply wish them away. The whole birth certificate thing with Obama and Whitewater/Travelgate/Lewinsky/etc thing with Bubba is kind of proof that you can't call a mulligan after a US Presidential election. In the past 36 years, we've only had a single one term President - George H.W. Bush - and the only reason he lost was by H. Ross Perot splitting the electorate by carving away enough populists, Reagan Democrats, and various right wingers who were pissed off about NAFTA and "Read my lips, no new taxes" to get Bubba elected.

Other than 41, the only one term Presidents we've had since the Great Depression was a guy who got shot,  Gerald Ford (who doesn't really count), and Carter who had 21 percent interest rates, crippling unemployment, gas shortages, and a foreign policy that saw the Soviets march into Afghanistan and US hostages held in Iran.

Which is why it was astounding to me to see fellow Republicans/conservatives willing to take a knee in 2016 and vote for Evan mcmuffin to purposely let Hillary Clinton win because somehow it would have paved the way for Ted Cruz (fucking seriously!) or Lil'-marco Rubio, or whomever to win in 2020.

There are some ideas so stupid, only an intellectual will believe them.

One of the most entertaining side-stories about the 2016 election is that Bill Clinton saw this shit coming.

And yet when the slickest politician of our generation speaks, you ignore him. Isn't that the fucking definition of hubris?

I've gone over that with a few left wing US folks, and they never want to listen.

These days I wouldn't rule anything out.  ;)

The Hillary Clinton campaign had some very... interesting internal dynamics that all but compelled them to do stupid and wasteful things.  I think that someone with fairly basic knowledge of the situation who could be objective would say, "Hey, wait a minute guys, didn't Bubba here humiliate the Republicans for eight years and give them heartburn with his mere existence?  Let's get him a handler to keep him out of trouble, keep his drinking to one deci-Yeltsin a day and institute a one-bimbo-per-week maximum and listen to what this guy has to say!"  But there were reasons that nobody on team Hillary could be that sensible.

Please list them. I don't want to buy or read the damn book.

The damning thing is that an "unnamed" Republican was palling around with the Clintons on the Russian piss dossier.

*coughMcCaincoughcough*

...

Although I'd laugh if it were his buddy Sen. Flake from Arizons who conveniently announced that he's not running for reelection.

It's funny because the Muh Russia BS is ending up doing exactly what I expected it to do from the start, biting the DNC in the butt and turning the focus to them after no one's able to find anything of substance with Trump's name on it.  It's almost like it started off as a way to deflect attention from how incompetent their IT is and the emails that had been leaked.
