Jeeps_Guns_Tanks
Hey! It's freaking 37 degrees here and there's frost on the ground. I'm wearing my wool socks which - I might add - are in keeping with a Swiss K-31 rifle. I feel you bro, it's fucking freezing here, I mean like 55 degrees! Donward
I feel you bro, it's fucking freezing here, I mean like 55 degrees! West Coast Problems, yo. No one understands. Farinhiet? I wash my balls in that type of weather Hey, if I wanted to live with General Winter howling down my back at minus-80 degrees whatever, I'd have picked up a milsurp Mosin. And judging by how often it gets above 37 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter in Russiastan, that says much about your grooming habits!
Donward
So my AR build is still progressing. It's been a fun process gathering the individual components and I am funding this by not buying lattes and eating out at fast food places less. So that explains why this process is dragging out and it's kind of a fun hobby researching each individual piece and weighing cost vs weight vs quality. Speaking of weight, the components you see come in at 4 pounds, 1 ounce. The next parts are the barrel and handguard and iron sights. Optics will be an option much later down the road. In my case a local shop has some andersen lowers for ~50.00.. While not the slickside NoDak I lust after, it's in stock and cheap. Just tired of not having a proper SP-1 on hand. Donward
That's convenient. Because my name is identical to a bad guy, 75 percent of my firearm purchases are flagged by the FBI. And this can entail anywhere from an hour to three day wait due to a variety of factors. Add the fact that most gun stores are at least a half hour drive from me, the cost of fuel and time driving made me settle and pay more for my lower. Donward
Funny story that. My wife's former house she was renting was owned by a Chinese family who were into some sort of human trafficking or smuggling something or other combined with identity theft. Anyway, the FBI agent who was investigating that case and who politely knocked on the door to interview her about their landlords ALSO was in charge of the ongoing DB Cooper investigation. I mean what a coincidence, right? ... Right? *Reaches for parachute and dark glasses*
Oedipus Wreckx-n-Effect
I have a couple of guns. A 3-gun 11-87, two CZ pistols, two AR-15s (One might be interesting, even), M44, blah blah. I've got a few guns. But I also have this.

Brick Fight
Bushmaster. $800, down from $1200. Not a big fan of the stock, but that'd be an easy fix.
Sturgeon
A very serviceable AR-15 at a decent price. They come with chrome-lined barrels, too, which is nice.My advice is to get a Tapco stock if yours is loose. They come in sets or alone, and they're really cheap because everyone wants something Magpul. They tend to fit tight on the buffer tube, and mine was a lot better than my stock Colt unit. You should be able to find one standalone without a buffer tube. Or you could buy a Magpul MOE stock, those are like $40.
Brick Fight
Thanks for the tip. The rattle doesn't bother me as much as comfort does. This one digs right into my shoulder in a way I don't like. Also the mag that came with it feels like it was made from the rattliest old lunchboxes, but the rifle itself feels really nice. After handling nothing but antique militaria since I was like 8, I keep catching glimpses of it, thinking it's an airsoft or something. I'll probably take the gun to the range this weekend. Donward
The Donward AR build (Donw-AR-d?) so far with the addition of an 18-inch barrel and 1/7 twist that I got from Rainier Arms. So that leaves the last major component being the handguard. Unfortunately, our electronic scales have given up the ghost and need to be replaced before our farmers market season. But weighing everything on the less precise mechanical scale comes in at 5 and 3/4 pounds so far. the addition of the handguard, iron (polymer) sights, sling and swivel should bring the total weight (unloaded) to just under 7 pounds if my napkin math is accurate. Shitty phone photo quality is shitty. I actually have a damn good camera now but apparently the power cord got lost at the airport when it went through the TSA X-ray machine. Donward
That looks like a good resource that I'll check out later tonight. While reliability and cost are my two main factors, I've placed a high priority on weight. And again this build is being financed by money I've not spent by foregoing fast food and lattes. ARs are easy to get lightweight, and they work great when built that way. People don't realize just how light the basic design is because you have so many fucking nutcrackers running around with 12 pounds of shit glued to their rifles and heavy barrels for no reason. Well I've been pretty happy so far and it's not like I've gone out of my way to get the latest, greatest uber-lightweight stuff. And the A2 stock which I have on it is "heavy" comparatively but I wanted something that looked "right", felt "right" to me and and wasn't the dime-a-dozen Magpul offerings but cost in the $50-$60 range. Sturgeon
I know you like the more traditional stuff, but give yourself a backup plan where you can use a six-position adjustable stock. They are seriously way better for everything.

They are seriously way better for everything. Actually, I've been looking at this very option. I just didn't want to get hung up on min-maxing which brand of adjustable stock would be good with what when I haven't even built and used this AR seemed short-sighted. The good news is that when I want to trade up out of my A2 stock, it'll take all of a minute or two to do so and the A2 can go on a second build at some point in the future. Also, for the love of God stake your castle nut. Yepper. I haven't begun assembling anything yet of course but it seems like a lot of the basic stuff one would do rebuilding a motor is applicable to putting together a bullit-spitter.
