Belesarius
Not a good idea to cut off something that weighs 60 x your mass. http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/tank-teaches-student-driver-in-yaris-a-valuable-driving-1708396324 Situational awareness is key while driving. Collimatrix
Typical hardware-centric talk. Crew training is really what matters. Put some Libyans in that chally 2 and some Chadians in the Toyota, and I guarantee you the tank is a smoldering wreck by the end of it. By 2015, the Germans were reduced to crewing their Toyota Yaris fleet with barely trained teenagers. Sturgeon
It's a myth that the Yaris can't hurt the Challenger 2. That was probably made up post-war by modelers who thought the much bigger and more impressive tank was cooler than the subcompact sedan. In reality, the Yarises proved to be highly effective combat vehicles that achieved a 1.46-to-1 kill ratio versus the clumsy British tanks in collisions, according to this study conducted by ARPA. Stats aren't everything. Jeeps_Guns_Tanks
Meplat
I have secret info that the Yaris could penetrate the Chally if it was using the unobtanium piston forgings.... T___A
We warned them female drivers would weaken their army! Does the British army actually allow female tank crew members?
Xlucine
Tank crew is considered "people directly fighting enemy" so women are not allowed because we're squeamish about that kind of thing

Walter_Sobchak
to be fair i could really see the added physical strength of a man being needed for tanking especially the driver The Israeli Army recently came to this conclusion and decided not to allow women to crew tanks. Donward
One of my best friends has a story he likes to tell of how his Humvee was run over by half the Canadian tank force in the Balkans during his Army funded trip to the Balkans during the late 1990s. The punchline of course is that it was one of the two Cannuck tanks over there. And by "run over" it was mostly just smashing up side a bit. Old army tales are apparently often exaggerated at times for comedic effect. Or so I've been led to believe.

Well i dont know if its any different in the west, but traditionally drivers usually do alot of lifting for the whole "maintenance, track repair, etc." roles
Sturgeon
I think in the West, the loader is traditionally the mechanic, but obviously it can't be that way for anyone using later generation Soviet hardware.

Loader and Driver do most of the grunt. Loader tends to be the dogsbody/gofer.

Meplat
I'd guess the TC has to pick up the slack then. Easier for him to unass the track than it is for the gunner.

Walter_Sobchak
Glad to see Walter was able to farm some forum rep with his Osprey bit. Mostly I did it to try to get some more traffic to my website. Unfortunately, funny stuff seems to generate more traffic than serious stuff.
