Are these BMPTs actually fighting, or are they just THERE? General Patton was THERE at the battle of the bulge, but I don’t believe he fought any Nazis himself, or was in any significant danger at all. Due to the lack of media portraying BMPTs in Syria, I’m inclined to think they are just sitting around somewhere, occasionally driving somewhere else just to say “we have it in Syria”.

aren't you supposed to talk heresy? Because what you just said is basically the consensus in this forum.

Ask me about T-64, especially B version. :D I have very good opinion on it. ("modern" ukrainian versions - not so)

Anyway, what I find quite funny, that according to rumors, analysts found that syrian experience showed that 30mm guns are not effective enough. What do we see on BMPT? 30mm weapons. 4 of them... +4 ATGMs will not do much... Thats why old Objekt-781 was so much better. 100mm gun with great elevation, still able to launch ATGMs, which are not exposed outside. And for 30mm lovers, still two grenade launchers additionally :P

That and Obj.199 aka nowday-BMPT both remind me of BMP-3 and earlier BMP-3 prototype - object 688, although it had one 30mm autocannon instead of two

I was thinking about the 115mm D-68/2A21 gun in the earliest T-64s.  You usually read this this was a simple modification of the 2A26 in the U-5TS/2A20 115mm gun in the T-62.  Today when I was supposed to be paying my taxes or whatever, I had the sudden realization that this would not work.

The T-62's 115mm fires conventionally cased ammunition.  The T-64 autoloader uses two-piece ammunition.  Separating the ammo into a section that holds the sabot and projectile, and a section that holds the propellant would allow the tank to fire once, and then the gun would be unable to reload.  The case section holding the projectile would get stuck in the firing chamber, since it wouldn't be connected to the bottom section of case, there would be no way to extract it.

So I double-checked Zaloga's book, and sure enough, there's a picture of the early 115mm two-piece ammo, and it's semi-caseless.

So it's less of a two-piece 115mm, and more of a miniature 125mm.

Yes, exactly like the 125mm. Zaloga's book is horrible btw. I wouldnt even consider it an entry level work, so many errors in it.

Here you can find photo of a propellant charge: (this is a great site!)

Heh, GL-ATGMs are not enough for us. 57 mm autocannons with guided projectiles, haha.

A 57-mm guided artillery projectile, unparalleled in the world, is being built in Russia. This was stated by the managing director of KB TochMash named after A.E. Nudelman - the developer of ammunition, Valery Makeev.

"In addition, we are developing the direction of high-precision guided artillery ammunition, we are working to create a promising, unmatched in the world 57-mm guided artillery projectile," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

In the Crimea, specialists of the Black Sea Fleet restored the legendary heavy tank of the times of the Great Patriotic War, the IS-2, which had recently stood as an exhibit of the open exposition of military equipment on Sapun Mountain in Sevastopol. In 2019, he can take part in the Victory Parade either in Simferopol or in Sevastopol. Last year, the specialists of the Black Sea Fleet armored service also took part in the restoration of another tank from Sapun Mountain, the legendary T-34. Today, the IS-2 and T-34 together pass sea trials at the site. And, according to the restorers, the cars show themselves well. “Of course, managing the IS-2 is more difficult than, for example, the T-72, but you can get used to everything,” the driver said.

206 Armored Repair Plant

/.../

The plant was closed in 2012 as part of military reform, and tanks from the Far East are being carried to St. Petersburg for repairs. It was the only plant in Russia that fully repaired tanks with gas turbine engines, T-80 modifications ( B, BV and U).
