   Detection of threats:

/.../ is determined by detecting a flash of a ground shot of a weapon due to the formation and processing of a stream of video data adapted for the weapon flash detection algorithm. The reliability of detection is provided by the results of automatic processing according to the energy, geometric, iconic and temporal criteria of a video sequence received by an optical radiation receiver. The significance of the detected danger is evaluated and the command is transmitted in the form of an electrical signal to activate the opto-electronic suppression system, for example, in the form of aerosol masks.

Possible number of tanks in Russian army.

Quote

   The numerical and qualitative composition of the tank forces of Russia (from the most obsolete machines to more advanced):

   Most obsolete machines:
T-72A / AV / AK - 150-200 (in the Central Military District and Higher Military Training with replacement by other tanks);
T-72B / B1 / BK / B1K - 1000-1100 (in all districts, they are delivered to the newly formed units, in others they are replaced by T-72B3);
T-72BA - 700 (in all districts, replaced by T-72B3).

   Outdated MBTs:
T-80BV - 100-220 (in the Arctic brigades and in VVO, replaced with T-80BVM);
T-80U - 200 (in the Kantemirovskaya division, with subsequent replacement by T-14).

   Modern tanks:
T-72B3 - 800 (in all districts, the state of the modernization program to the base model is unknown);
T-80UE-1 - 20 (in Kantemirovskaya division, with subsequent replacement with T-14);
T-80BVM - 30-150 (in the Arctic teams and in the VVO, replace the T-80BV);
T-90A - 200 (in Western and South Military District, replaced with T-72B3 UBKh);
T-72B3 UBKh - 120 (all districts).

Total: 3510-3660 tanks.

Thats interesting... But what about the recently reactivated T-62M/MVs? Or was that just for one event only? (Vostok 18)

Also, I think "modern" is quite relative... T-72B3 may be modern in this list, but otherwise... Lets just say there is room for improvement... To put it mildly...

Realistically, the only modern tank in Russian army will be the T-90M in the near future. Maybe later the T-14... maybe...

Its quite sad to see that the whole fleet is dominated by T-72s, and the otherwise superior (tue potential for modernization) T-80U and T-90A are slowly dying out.

In this fragment, they are talking about the protection on the sides of T-80BVM referencing the new 2S24 ERA modules and they mention that the tanks sides are now protected against tandem HEAT, that is the result of the combined effect of the 2S24 + the ERA under the sideskirts or the 2A24 modules by themselves inherently offer tandem protection?

   Was not told in that video. Waiting for a full version, as it appears that their dialogue started in mid point and some information was left outside of this short clip.

   He noted that the type tests of the BTR-82A modifications prototypes had been successfully completed. "Starting in 2019, all armored personnel carriers will be equipped with a modernized fire control system with a thermal imager sight and additional protection," the deputy minister said.

Said Deputy Minister of Defense Alexei Krivoruchko. It will be interesting what kind of additional protection they will add to BTR-82As.
