   100 years ago the first specialized tank unit in the history of Russia was created.

   April 27, 1919, by order No. 674 of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces in the South of Russia, General A.I. Denikin in Ekaterinodar as part of the All-Union People's Defense Directorate formed the 1st tank division as part of the command and four tank detachments, equipped with British tanks Mk V and Mk A. 

   As part of the Red Army, the tank unit was formed on April 22, 1919 in Kharkov as part of the Auto-armed Special Purpose Division under the Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR, it was the first tank unit and nominally had four or five French light tanks Renault FT captured from the French troops by the 2nd Zadneprovskaya brigade of the 1st Zadneprovska Ukrainian Soviet division (ataman N. A. Grigoriev) near Odessa on March 18-21, 1919.
