Belesarius
The crew got out ok, which is good. http://sputniknews.com/russia/20150714/1024590456.html#ixzz3fr0yeaxn
LoooSeR
Yeah, planes are to old. 20 years of nearly no active actions by our VVS did not gone without a trace.

Belesarius
MiG-29, Tu-95, Su-24 and a couple of others.
Donward
What will the Russkies use to annoy and buzz NATO if they keep having to ground their planes? Pretty soon Putin will be reduced to scrambling PO-2 "Sewing Machine" biplanes!
Belesarius
Ok, 7 crashes. And now an investigation starts. http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/investigation-ordered-into-string-of-russian-air-force-crashes/526156.html The tally thus far: 2 Tu-95 Bears. 2 MiG-29 Fulcrums, 1 Su-24 Fencer, 1 Su-34 Fullback, 1 An-12 Cub. Edit: From the article "according to one unidentified source quoted by RIA Novosti after the second Tu-95 crash in mid-July, all four engines on that aircraft died mid-flight." Jesus. That would fucking suck.
Sturgeon
That feeling when all five gajillion shafts in your engine reach their fatigue life at once.
xthetenth
That sounds more like the failure mode on an Airacuda than a real plane sane people built.
Tied
Which is why i think its an issue of sabotage, the Tu-95 is a pretty good design ...yep....no maintenance problems at all
LoooSeR
Sabotage? Jokes aside, this is something very unlikely to happen. Their balls would be torn off for such actions. And then used for PR, "look at those CIA agents killing our pilots" will be something very serious.
Tied
that was a joke If anything its due to the very poor maintence situation sorry, forgot to add the oviously emoit
LoooSeR
Yeah, as i said before - we need new planes. Old planes are like 30+ years old.
xthetenth
Sufficiently poor maintenance is a good substitute for sabotage.
Tied
Well I dont think our nuclear striking capability dosent or hasn't relied on bombers for some time compared to the ICBM fleet Its not a bad idea to have them for secondary attacks, but i understand the lack of priority with the doctrine
Sturgeon
That sounds more like the failure mode on an Airacuda than a real plane sane people built. I am quite confident that any one of a Bear's engine nacelles is by itself a more sophisticated device than an entire Airacuda.
xthetenth
Betting on a fuel system failure, tbh.
Donward
Looks like it is time to go back to the drawing board and start rebuilding reverse engineered Tupolev Tu-4s.
Tied
hmm reverse engineer B-52s you say we better make sure to give them a wicked black paintscheme to not confuse those pesky pilot's of soviegn nations earth land that isnt Russia
Mike E
Four at once is beyond unlikely...and such incidents (multiple-engine failure) have been occurring more commonly. A guy I know suggested that the fuel as used on "that trip" may be to blame, as it can explain everything.

Four failures secondary to one failure is well within the realm of possibility.
