mjmoss
So the MAC yt channel has just put up a video featuring the new Turkish 7.62 'battle rifle', looks like they've taken idea from a number of designs. http://youtu.be/-XV9RbE8IWI
Collimatrix
I've seen it before. Pretty sure it's an HK 417.
mjmoss
Certainly has the 417's gas system
Collimatrix
It's not just a gas piston AR-10. It has several features particular to the HK rifles, such as a spring-loaded, chromed bolt and spring-loaded firing pin. The single thing that appears to have been re-designed is the firing pin safety lever, which appears to be smaller.
mjmoss
Interesting, attack of the clones haha. Some nice aesthetic features added into the mix.
Tied
First Iran and the Khoozi now this Jee there seem to be allot of people reverse engineering M16s or buying foreign reverse engineered M16s to replace G-3s German engineering huh? mjmoss
mjmoss
Well they're increasingly unlikely to go for a G36 haha.
Sturgeon
I am very confident that this is an HK 417 clone, made on tooling developed under HK's guidance. IIRC, a few years ago at SHOT, one of the HK guys talked about visiting Turkey to help set up that production line.
mjmoss
Don't doubt it, not a bad starting point. Max notes it was originally chambered in 556.
Sturgeon
I can now say with confidence that HK was involved in setting up the MPT-76 production: Note the Ulm proofmarks. Thanks, Daniel!
Khand-e
I can now also say with confidence that H&K was involved.
Belesarius
as a certified Hk417 fanboy, I would take one of them as a substitute. Weird transition from magwell to foregrip, and odd rail mounted carry handle aside... I'm ok with that.
Sturgeon
That ramp in front of the lower is just a plastic handguard. It's readily removed.
Belesarius
I figured. Edit: 417 with a giggle switch and 12 different stock positions. EVEN BETTER.
D.E. Watters
That ramp in front of the lower is just a plastic handguard. It's readily removed. Or repositioned. Think of it as a quickly adjustable Magpul AFG.
