Belesarius
Highway to the dangerzone, 1943 style! Yeah, the next Top Gun movie shouldn't be futuristic or current day, it should be retro.

Jeeps_Guns_Tanks
Nice shot of an early F4U-1 with battle damage, some Japanese pilot didn't get the job done, or AA gunner.

Collimatrix
What is this? A Handly-Page Victor by the looks of it. It has an interesting crescent wing design that's supposed to give the best qualities of a straight and a swept wing: Belesarius and LoooSeR
Belesarius
Yep. 1/3 of the V-Series of bombers. The UKs deterrence force from the 50s-70s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_bomber
Sturgeon
The BTD is interesting. In one image, you can see the SB2D, which is the BTD's predecessor with a rear defensive turret. You might guess the BTD was an SB2C Helldiver competitor, but that's not so! The Helldiver was in fact so terrible that the Douglas SBD was used to the end of the war, and Douglas was solicited to create the SB2C's replacement as soon as the Helldivers started to be delivered. This resulted in the far superior SB2D Destroyer, but only 28 were completed before the war's end, when the program was cancelled (as were many others). However, Douglas would again have the last laugh with the BT2D, AKA the hugely capable and successful A-1 Skyraider. Curtiss-Wright's airplane division, on the other hand, would fold soon after WWII, because they were terrible at everything. LostCosmonaut
Turns out there was at least one combat aircraft in World War 2 with counter-rotating props. (E15K, think they only made about a dozen of them)

LostCosmonaut
There wasn't a spitfire that one right at the end? Not that I know of, I think the Griffon engine ones had four or five bladed props. It'd require a redesigned gearbox at the minimum for counter-rotating props. Five bladed prop appreciation zone; Spitfire Mk 18 PC-12 S 31 (Spitfire Mk 19)
LostCosmonaut
Jeeps, you might have been thinking of the Martin-Baker (of ejection seat fame) MB5, which was too late for the war;
