In 1945 a five years old tank was hopelessly obsolete. Today a tank from 1980' being around 35 years old is still good enough for 95% of tank use and a tank from 1950' is still ok for at least half of the tank work happening around the globe. Funilly enough even T-34-85 considered obsolete by USSR in 1945 is still in limited use till today... just saying.

   Viktor Murakhovskiy about Syrian tanks.

The T-55A tank in the foreground is equipped with a thermal imaging sight mounted in an armored casing above the gun barrel. The sight was developed by the Syrians themselves, based on the Chinese uncooled bolometric matrix.

Uncooled microbolometric matrix - 1 \ 3 inch, 384x288 pixels
Spectral range 8-14 nm
Sensitivity ≥10mV / K
Observation Distance - up to 6 km
Tank-like target recognition distance - about 5 km
The recognition distance of a target like a person (growth figure) is about 4 km.
The sight provides targeted shooting at ranges up to 4 km.
The video display device is black and white, mounted at the gunner station next to the TPN-1 infrared sight. There is no ballistic computer, but the Syrian tankers say that it is not needed, since almost always target engagement is at ranges of a direct shot or closer.
In English sources, and after them in Russian, this thermal imaging sight is sometimes called "Viper", but the Syrian tankers themselves have not heard of such a name.
Since about 2017, some tanks have been equipped with the 1K13 Belarusian thermal imaging sight.
