Massive northern Aleppo offensive set to begin soon as Iraqi volunteers pour into the province

Nearly one year ago, the National Defense Forces (NDF) launched a massive offensive to lift the two year long siege of both Nubl and Al-Zahra’a in the northern Aleppo countryside.

For a brief two hours, the National Defense Forces of Aleppo City reached the besieged towns in northern Aleppo; however, reinforcements from Turkey poured into the Aleppo Governorate to help the Islamist rebels reestablish control over the Al-Malaah Farms, Hardatineen, Bashkoy and Rityan

The Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and Jaysh Al-Mujahiddeen were able recapture almost all of those aforementioned sites, besides the imperative village of Bashkoy, which still remains under the Syrian Arab Army’s control.

On Saturday morning, an extremely large force of Iraqi paramilitary fighters traveled to the Aleppo Governorate from Iraq in order to prepare for the major offensive taking place in the upcoming weeks.

According to a military source in the Aleppo Governorate, some 1,500 Iraqi paramilitary fighters joined the resistance forces preparing to launch a large-scale offensive at Al-Zahra’a and Nubl.

The date of this alleged offensive was not revealed by our sources, but it is expected to begin in the coming weeks as the Syrian Armed Forces strengthen their positions in the Aleppo Govenrorate’s southern countryside.

Hezbollah, Syrian Army cutoff the Aleppo-Damascus Highway after seizing Khan Touman in southern Aleppo

It took several weeks for the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah to seize the imperative town of Khan Touman that is located along the vast Aleppo-Damascus Highway (M-5 Highway); however, moments ago, the pro-government forces officially declared they are in full control the town after intense firefights with Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham.

Al-Masdar News was informed that Hezbollah led the charge this morning, which ultimately paved the way for the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division and Harakat Al-Nujaba to help push out the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jabhat Al-Nusra to the Idlib Governorate’s northeastern border.

What does the capture of Khan Touman mean to the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies?

Well, perhaps the most important thing is that the Islamist rebels are now without a primary supply route from the provincial capital of the Idlib Governorate to the provincial capital of the Aleppo Governorate.

Without this primary supply route to their militants in southern Aleppo, the Islamist rebels will be forced to find an alternative route to the provincial capital in order to evade the Syrian Arab Army’s guard posts that will likely be constructed along this highway in the near future.

Captured villages are in circles. Those 2 villages were last one here, being 'deep' in Syria-controlled territory, creating a danger o counter-attack, if SAA and Co decided to push futher through M5 highway.

Why is the place called "Khan Touman," I wonder?  Tumen was a Mongolian military unit, and everyone knows what a Khan was.  Did the Mongols conquer the place at some point?

And Israeli airstrikes?  What is the list of countries not bombing Syria?

It is not first Israeli strike in Syria. IIRC it is 5th.

Interesting.  Settling old grudges with Hezbollah?

They targeted one Samir Kuntar (or Qantar), a "moderate anti-imperialist secularist" who lead the 1979 Nahariya attack, where he smashed open a 4 year old girl's head with a rifle butt before being captured. Since his release in 2008 in a prisoner swap deal, he's been involved in further terrorist attacks against Israel and apparently has been running a death squad for the Syrian government.

The "six to eight" other people killed were apparently mainly Hezbollah field commanders.

They were not "Hezbollah" 'commanders', but syrians and palestinians from "Syrian National Resistance" - anti-Israel palestinian/syrian/iraqi organisation, one of Palestine Liberation Front allies. Lebanon Al-Mukowama don't have HQ in Syria near or in Damascus, AFAIK only Mukowama Souri have.

Ah, so they're allies of the terrorist group that carried out the Achille Lauro hijacking and offers cash bounties to the families of suicide bombers. More "moderate anti-imperialists" who put socks over their heads and go around murdering people.

Jabhat Al-Nusra counter-offensive at Marj Al-Sultan fails; lead commander killed

One week after losing the imperative Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport and its village, the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and their allies from Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) launched a counter-offensive to retake this site from the Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd, 105th, and 416th Brigades of the Republican Guard and the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Damascus City.

Hours before their major assault on the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport, Jabhat Al-Nusra posted promotional videos for this counter-offensive that was meant to raise the morale of their fighters and their ardent followers.

However, things did not go as according to plan for Jabhat Al-Nusra and their allies, as they ended up with a substantially high death toll and the destruction of their heavy armory during this failed infiltration attempt to enter the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport.

In fact, the offensive ended in sheer disaster after Jabhat Al-Nusra’s lead field commander/star of the promotional video was killed by the Syrian Arab Army before the aforementioned Islamist group retreated north of the base.

According to a military source in the city of Damascus, Jabhat Al-Nusra and their allies lost over 25 combatants, while another half dozen surrendered to the Syrian Arab Army’s Republican Guard.

The Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport was captured by the Syrian Armed Forces last week; it is strategically located inside the East Ghouta region of the Rif Dimashq Governorate.

Russian fighter jets strike the Idlib Shariah Courts: 40+ Islamists killed

The Russian Air Force delivered a series of powerful airstrikes above the provincial capital of the Idlib Governorate on Sunday afternoon, killing over 40 Islamist rebels from Jaysh Al-Fateh (Army of Conquest) before they completely destroyed the Idlib Shariah Courts.

According to a military source in the Hama Governorate, the Russian Air Force’s fighter jets repeatedly struck the large building where the Shariah Courts were located; this resulted in the death of several militants from the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and Jund Al-Aqsa (also affiliated with Al-Qaeda).

In addition to striking the Shariah Courts of Idlib City, the Russian fighter jets hit the Idlib Air Force Intelligence headquarters that housed a number of the Islamist fighters and Muslim Brotherhood members.

As a result of these airstrikes, social media activists from the Muslim Brotherhood attempted to depict the Russian air raid as an attack on civilians; however, the Al-Masdar News staff tracked the location of the attack and researched the targeted sites.

The Russian Air Force’s airstrikes did kill one member from the Syrian Civil Defense in Idlib City; however, this member was also known for working with Jabhat Al-Nusra and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham during their executions.

Syrian Army seizes strategic mountain chain in northeastern Latakia

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard has captured one of the most important sites in the Latakia Governorate’s northern countryside after several days of fighting with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

This imperative site is actually a mountain chain that connects the mountains between the large villages of Salma and Kabani near the Idlib Governorate border.

On Sunday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Qurdaha, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Muqawama Souri (Syrian Resistance) captured the small hilltop village of Yacoubar that linked the final road leading from Kabani to Salma in Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains).

In addition to capturing Yacoubar, the Syrian Armed Forces secured the contested village of ‘Ikko after several Islamist rebel fighters attempted to retake this site from the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and the National Defense Forces.

With the mountain chain between Kabani and Salma under their control, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies are attempting encircle both villages in order to cutoff all enemy supply lines to their militants.

Perhaps the most important offensive the Syrian Armed Forces are currently involved in is the Turkish border assault to seal off Jabal Al-Turkmen (Turkmen Mountains); this would mean the Islamist rebels would have no direct supply route from Turkey.

If the Syrian Armed Forces capture the Turkish-Latakia border, they will be in position to strike the imperative city of Jisr Al-Shughour that is located in the Idlib Governorate.
