Russian officer dies from injuries sustained in Aleppo

 

 

   A Russian military officer reportedly died on June 7th after sustaining life-threatening wounds as a result of jihadist shelling in the Aleppo Governorate. The Kremlin confirmed the death of Sergeant Mikhail Shirokopoyas on Thursday, making this fallen officer the 10th Russian military casualty in Syria.

 

   Sergeant Shirokopoyas was reportedly assigned to monitor the Syrian ceasefire in the Aleppo Governorate before he was wounded due to indiscriminate shelling. Despite being provided first-aid in Aleppo City, the Russian officer had to be airlifted to a Russian hospital, where he underwent intensive surgery. However, the Russian officer would later succumb to his wounds in Moscow, leaving behind a wife and 13 year old daughter.

 

   Sergeant Shirokopoyas was posthumously awarded the Russian Order of Courage and buried with full military honors in the Amur Region of Russia.

   Serious battle yesterday in S-W Aleppo province, area not far from Al-Hader town. This part of frontline (S-W part of Aleppo province) is protected by combined forces of Iraqi shiites from Nujaba and similar, NDF and SAA, a company of Al-Mukowama (company is max est.), some IRSG personal, small numbers of Afghan shiites volunteers from Fatimiun/Zeinabiun units. Just to give an idea about scales of combat for those several villages - pro-"opposition" sources (SOHR in particular) claim 167 islamists/moderates from Jaish Al-Fatah were killed (including 25 amirs), 5 tanks and 2 BMPs destroyed, up to 34 cars also were lost.
