France has invoked Article 42.7 of the Lisbon Treaty and called on other EU members to help them fight ISIS.  First time the mutual defense part of the treaty has been invoked. Interesting to me that they went that route instead of using NATO.

Well, considering who is all in NATO, I'm not sure there is any way to get the organization all on the same page to do something about ISIS.

they will have a petition drafted by next month to mandatory force all NATO nations to being a rough outline of a sternly worded letter to ISIS

pending EU and UN security council approval

Well that'll teach em. There's no way that ISIS will simply create another Twitter account!

Was at a lecture about Iran-US relations. The topic of ISIS appeared naturally. Pleasantly surprised the speaker partially blamed Saddam's Baathist party members, the Gulf States, and Wahhabism along with US meddling. Mostly because some emasculate behind me whispered to himself "Bush" as if the complex issue of the origins of ISIS all arise from a singular source.

Bush was a terrible president, particularly on foreign issues, but for Jannah's sake it doesn't rest solely on the MF-er's scalp. Just like a quarter of it.

Syrian Army and Hezbollah Capture Halash in Southern Aleppo

Halash1.png?resize=600%2C612

On Tuesday afternoon, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with Hezbollah, the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Aleppo City, Kataebat Al-Ba’ath (Al-Ba’ath Battalions), Harakat Al-Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary), Kataeb Hezbollah (Iraqi paramilitary), and Firqa Fatayyemoun (Iranian/Afghani paramilitary) – have imposed full control over the village of Halash in southern Aleppo after a series of intense firefights with the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra”, and Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham.

The Syrian Armed Forces and their allies captured the village of Halash after advancing south from the town of Hamrah, resulting in the end of the Islamist rebel counter-offensive to recapture the territory they lost over the last 45 days in southern Aleppo.

According to a field source that is currently embedded with the SAA’s 4th Mechanized Division in southern Aleppo, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies killed several enemy combatants during their assault on Halash, including the newest commander of Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, Hassan Mi’kat.

The military source added that the village of Halash is also referred to as “Khalsah”; however, it is referred to by locals in Aleppo as the former.

With the capture of Halash in southern Aleppo, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies are now in position to attack the imperative village of Zitan from two different flanks – the other flank being the Zitan-Birnah axis to the south of this village.

Russia launches long-range air sorties into Syria

Key Points

  • Russia has conducted large-scale bomber sorties into Syria from its home bases in Russia
  • The strikes mark the combat debut of several bombers and new air-launched cruise missiles

Footage released by the Russian MoD indicates that the Tu-95MS aircraft dropped Kh-555 (AS-15 'Kent') air-launched cruise missiles against their targets, while the Tu-160s dropped Kh-101 stealthy cruise missiles - a first combat outing for the missile. In addition the Tu-22M3 bombers were seen being fitted with OFAB-250-270 unguided bombs within their internal weapons bays. Meanwhile, footage appearing on social media from Syria indicates that at least one of the Kh-555 missiles exploded* in mid-air over Syria.

*That was missile engine without warhead. It seems like Kh-555 version, used in strikes, has separatable warhead.

Syrian Army Enters the Strategic City of Sheikh Miskeen in Northern Daraa

Last year, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division launched an offensive to recapture the eastern district of Sheikh Miskeen from the Free Syrian Army’s “1st Brigade” and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra”; however, the promising assault turned sour when the aforementioned Islamist rebel groups countered and took control of both Sheikh Miskeen and the large city of Nawa within 48 hours.

For the first time since losing Sheikh Miskeen and Nawa in the Dara’a Governorate’s northern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division – in conjunction with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Izra’a – have restarted military operations at the strategic city of Sheikh Miskeen, capturing the Water Company Facility, the Military Base, and the poultry farms en route to reaching the western district’s outskirts over the weekend.

On Tuesday morning, the Syrian Army’s 15th Brigade of the 5th Armored Division struck the Free Syrian Army’s “Southern Front Brigades” at the western district of Sheikh Miskeen, killing several enemy combatants before overrunning their defensive positions to enter the city for the first time in a year.

According to a military source at the 5th Division’s headquarters in the city of Izra’a, the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade and the National Defense Forces entered Sheikh Miskeen’s western district, but were later forced to withdraw in order to allow for the Syrian Arab Air Force’s (SAAF) fighter jets to bombard the Islamist rebels.

If the Syrian Arab Army is able to recapture Sheikh Miskeen in northern Dara’a, they will be in position to secure the Syrian government stronghold of Izra’a and increase their presence along the Dara’a-Sinamayn Road.
