Fuel reserve - 8 fuel tanks with a total volume of 2500 liters.
Cruising range - 1500 km.

The suspension and engine of the Kharkovchanka Antarctic vehicle, or, as it was also called, the 404S product, was developed on the basis of the AT-T military tractor, and the T-54 tank was its prototype.

From the army's ancestor, vehicle got the chassis, lengthened by two rollers. Tracks were expanded - up to 1 m, for greater cross-country ability. As a result, a huge, bright orange tracked all-terrain vehicle (length - 8.5 m, width - 3.5 m, height - 4 m) weighing 30 tons could reach speed 30 km/h, drove to a hill at an angle of 30 ° and pulled a trailer twice as heavy.

If the bottom of the ATV was created by tank builders, then its “top” - the body, windows, thermal insulation system - are the designers of the Kharkov aircraft factory. KhAZ engineers made a body with aluminum and insulated it with 8 layers of nylon wool. To prevent the windows from freezing, they were equipped with desiccants and a constant flow of hot air was supplied. The windshields were supplied with electric heating at all, like what all cars have today.

In the cockpit with an area of 28 m² and a height of 2.1 m, while driving in the polar "desert", there could be 8 crew members. There were sleeping places in the cabin - bunk beds, a toilet with a washbasin and even a kitchen, where canned food was heated and water was boiled.

Dodge Flitewing Concept Car

11QMXZH.jpg

Quote

The Dodge Flitewing concept was developed by the designers of Chrysler, which owned the Dodge brand. A feature of the car was the hinged side windows that automatically rose when the doors were opened. Also, the windows could be opened manually, using the buttons located on the left door. Similar windows have improved visibility from the car. A prototype car was built by Italians from the studio Ghia. Despite the fact that the car was positioned as a show car, and was intended to be shown at exhibitions, the Dodge Flitewing was running, and was equipped with a 330 hp Chrysler B engine. The official presentation of the car took place in November 1961 at the automobile exhibition in New York.

The tour bus Ikarus 31 on the streets of Budapest; 60s

dhvLfMx.jpg

Quote

The tour bus was built on the basis of the serial Ikarus 31, but received a number of significant changes. So, to improve visibility from the bus, the roof was cut, but a light canopy was mounted to protect passengers from the sun. Passengers had access to the passenger compartment through a door in the rear of the bus. The front panel of the bus was also changed. In total, only two buses were built in 1963 and were used by Budapest Travel Agency.

Avions Voisin C25 Aérodyn luxury car

E8LWqgl.jpg

Quote

The car was created by French engineering firm Avions Voisin. The company was founded in 1905 and in the early stages of its activity was engaged in aviation. The company organized automobile production in 1919, after the end of the First World War, due to the capacities created during the war years to fulfill military orders. Avions Voisin C25 was created in 1934. The car was equipped with a 6-cylinder 3 liters  90 hp engine.; two-speed manual gearbox. The four-seater was equipped with two body styles: 4-door Aérodyne and 2-door Cimier (in the last two photos). Both options were made of aluminum, had a sunroof, as well as a voluminous trunk combined with free access from the passenger compartment. Presentation of Avions Voisin C25 took place in 1935 at the Paris Motor Show. Then the serial production of the machine was established. However, it never became large-scale: only 25 C25 chassis were assembled, 7 of which were used for the Aérodyne and 1 for the Cimier. The French car did not gain popularity on the market due to its high cost: 88,000 francs versus 35,000 per competitor - Bugatti Type 57.

Saw a 47 Fleetmaster a few days ago.

Sweet car. Simple, shift on the column (basically making it theft-proof today) fastback styling.

Guy said he got a solid 20 MPG, and it would cruise at 75 MPH .

Based on my experiences with similar vehicles of the era, he was probably right.

   Cumberford Martinique - retro-styled car from 1980s.

wPdOWZS.jpg

Quote

This car was created by American designer Robert Cumberford in the early 80's. Two prototypes of the car were made, differing by the material from which the car’s frame was made - one was made of cast aluminum, the other was made of extruded aluminum, the rest of the prototypes did not differ, they were equipped with a 6-cylinder in-line BMW engine (175 hp), the components of the chassis were borrowed from the French car Citroën CX. A characteristic feature of Martinique are "wings" made of Kevlar with polyurethane filling and sheathed in mahogany veneer, giving the car a “vintage” look. The official presentation of Martinique took place in 1982. In the future, Cumberford planned to release a series of 300 cars at a specially organized Cumberford Research enterprise, but failed to implement the plans.

   XF-58 Ice Princess custom car.

qBmmBy7.jpg

Quote

This six-wheeled car was created in 1987 by the American designer Robert Fletcher. To create a car, components from Studebaker Champion cars of the 1950 model and Cadillac Eldorado of the 1960 model were used. The car was a 4-seater, arranged in pairs in tandem in two cabs. The engine was borrowed from the Cadillac - an 8-cylinder 7 liters, 340 hp. Ice Princess was assembled in a single copy and shortly after creation was sold to the collection of Larry Clairmount

ZiL Blue BIrd (one of 3 models) video showing some of features. In Russian, but footage is interesting. 26 such vehicles were made in total during Soviet times for Soviet space program (finding landed crew capsules and crew evac) (14 of passenger versions, 12 in cargo/carrier).

Vehicle on the video was made in 1985 and was found in Kazakhstan. It was plainted in military green camo, cost of paintjob was ~13000$ to get it back to original color scheme. Have 2 fuel tanks 250 liters each. 6x6, amphibious. AC, plenty of medical equipment. Weight 9 t, 9 meters long, can carry up to 4 t. 75 km/h max speed on the road, up to 10 on water. Engine cooling system is automatic, with automatically openable hatch for additional cooling (if needed). Tire pressure can be changed by driver.
