Varanids: Actually the best squamates

Varanid lizards are hands down the best squamates.  Why?

 

For dozens of reasons.  For starters, they can actually breathe while running thanks to avian-style unidirectional airflow in their lungs.  Not even mammals have that!

 

For another thing, their bites aren't just septic, they are actually venomous.

 

And best of all?  They can be trained to high-five!  Snakes can't do that!
