  1. Eh, there's a lot of people out there that I would probably pass over in a burning building to save a chimp instead. Doubly so if I was just driving before I got there.

PETA and especially ALF and all are completely useless and terrible though. My father does research that involves animals for immunology and the amount of hoops they have to jump through to ensure things are safe and proper is impressive. And it's not like he would be making stuff terrible for the animals otherwise as that can easily invalidate the results.

Many years ago one of his labs got raided by ALF and they released all of the research mice from the cages and out of the building. Next to that building was a 'Raptor Rehabilitation Program' or something like that. Lots of scraps of little white mouse fur everywhere the next few days.

    Raiding an immunology lab?

    How dumb can you be?

  2. http://theweek.com/articles/441474/how-academias-liberal-bias-killing-social-science

    http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1968042,00.html

The problem with liberalism in academia is usually connected to the liberal sense of superiority over others. Combine that with an overwhelming amount of liberalism in academia, it's difficult to express different opinions, especially if you are going to be discriminated against. My old politics professor is the only non-liberal professor in his department and he gets pretty badly discriminated, especially when it comes to getting funding as his papers are usually anti-free market and how unimportant a municipal government is.

  3. It's not exactly fascism per say, but mass movements in general. Fascism was just the most extreme example of a mass movement. Today's mass movements are ridiculous, have ridiculous aims, ridiculous reasons for the mass movements themselves and a ridiculous number of people who follow the ridiculousness.

  4. I haven't kept up on ELF/ALF actions as much as I should. Ecoterrorism might spike in the coming years, and that is worse than any animal death(which is bad, we get it).

Just rewatched Bullshit on PETA, and I love the last lines by P&T on how they'd murder every last chimp in order to save a single human life. If you disagree, then you are pretty fucked up.

There is a surprising amount of people who value animal life much greater than human life and would happily sacrifice the person (as long as they don't know them personally) or several people to save the life of one animal. Because "the animal hasn't caused any harm" or some answer like that. It's pretty fucked up really.

  5. Yeah, basically all of the models were originally built on the AS2 model for the King Tiger after it was imported from the game, even the speed and armor values are the same, but because the engine is slightly updated they...kind of fuck up if you try to use them with mods.

One thing about ERA is I imagine it would be a bitch to accurately model.

I don't think ERA would be too hard to model. Just have a separate armor value for not yet hit and after being hit in that region with a sufficiently powerful weapon. When it hits, make it explode and give it some splash.

Modelling it efficiently is a different question though.

I'm just curious about how they will do ATGMs with the engagement ranges we have.

  6. Personally, the (over)reactions made me much more upset. People blindly rally behind something they don't know all the facts about and completely overreacting and doing ridiculous things like making death threats and trying to completely ruin his life. What's even worse is that politicians and celebrities are adding fuel to the fire and blowing it up further to appear "morally right" and get more "likes". If it was a person or any other lion, people will likely not even bat an eye. And then a year later, people probably won't even remember Cecil the lion and move on to overreact about something else.

What's disturbing about all this is how similar this is to the fascist movements in the 1920s and 30s that you read about, mass movements of people blindly rallying behind causes they don't really understand and then doing terrible things that they think are supposed to be "morally righteous".

The entire thing makes me feel really uncomfortable.

  7. It's also in the middle east aswell though (infact, It mainly is) and, memory serve me, didn't some middle eastern nations buy the T-80U like Pakistan, Egypt and Yemen (the latter most of which would be quite relevant here given their current civil war)?

If so, did they receive actually good Russian ERA and GL-ATGM ability or shit tier export ERA and no missiles?

Also, at worst, maybe they can take them out and replace them with some export T-72s or something and include a full on Russian faction instead using tanks with functional modern ERA after a bit of convincing, (I'd actually like to see a Russian faction added, aswell as a PLA one and possibly a few others. men of war managed 5 factions even taking into account Japans....lacking equipment of WW2, I'm sure they can manage to pull it off here.)

ERA and ATGMs are not modelled yet.

However, ATGMs will be surely introduced at some point because the Bradley has 7 TOWs in its inventory. ERA is on a lot of unit models so they might be implemented at some point.

The guns are placeholders too. All main guns currently have KwK 43s as their weapon, with AP/HE/APCR loadouts.

This article sums up a lot of my thoughts about this whole fiasco.

Personally, I feel downright appalled at the reactions to what the dentist did. Yes, he was in the wrong for poaching whether wittingly or not but the reactions are ridiculous.

People are placing the value of the lives of animals much greater than those of other human beings. People are calling for him to be lynched and trying to ruin his life and make him go into poverty at the same time, they talk about how morally good they think they are. Meanwhile local Zimbabweans don't even feel anything about the issue of a lion being poached, especially with hundreds dying from lion attacks every year.

There are no mentions of the local Zimbabweans who are dying of starvation, live in destitute poverty with a corrupt government but a lion gets killed and everyone is up in arms.

tl;dr I am disgusted at people for being massive hypocrites and that many place the value of the life of animals much greater than those of fellow human beings

  9.

-The Russians will re-acquire the lead they had in tank design throughout most of the Cold War, with the Chinese playing second fiddle.  Chinese first-line tanks will be quite good, but they will sell hilarious, hot-rodded type 59s to export customers (alongside hilarious hot-rodded J-7s) instead of their good stuff.  Russia will sell the good stuff, and once they manage to replicate the parts they needed to source from abroad, it will be really good.  The Ukrainian tank industry will remain gutted, and the glorious Kharkiv tank design lineage will fade into obscurity.

Why retool your factories when you can make a ton of dosh from them without retooling?

  10. Once the busy season is over, I want to start a blog that deals with cooking. Not recipes, though. I want to teach people to actually cook for themselves. It's always frustrating to see people who will only ever cook recipes and who buy pointless spices and equipment. With the right skills, you can go out, buy one or two pieces of meat/produce, and make a perfectly good meal without having to break out a recipe or measuring equipment. I always want to throw out the bottles of flavorless powder that just tumble out of every cupboard in America and replace them with a box of Morton's Kosher, some black peppercorns, and a $10 spice grinder. The quality of food in the country would increase a hundredfold overnight.

I will help contribute some simple stuff if you want.
