I don't think I've ever been more excited about a Forgotten Weapons video:

Welp. Just spent over an hour hacking up one of those rounds and photographing it. Post to come later.

Historical .22 1895 US Army Experimental, rendered in SW:
Solidworks does not have any stock tin color, and I had a tough time simulating it. I think it went OK.

I suspect that it is also being fired with handloaded ammunition, so the velocity and projectile specs may not be adequate for proper accuracy and penetration.

If SAR would just get their website back in order, I could find the link to HK's proposal to JSSAP for the SMG I.

Strange French PDW by GIAT prototype of the 1990s:
Here are exact dimensions of the cartridge that it fired. The cartridge was a 5.56x22mm, but is sometimes described as a 5.7x22mm.
Other than that I have no information on the PDW or on that extended magazine for the FAMAS F1.

Yes, I have read that piece and it is essentially what you turn up in most places. Which is "it kind of looks like a G36, but that's pretty much all we know. Oh, but it doesn't work like a G36."
Even the Spanish sources I have read are quite terrible, and I have never been able to find any details about trialing the gun, accounts of Ordnance (how long before stuff like this usually becomes public info in the US/Europe?), or even feedback from users.
Also, Mexico's patent site does turn up some info:

Speaking of egregious errors in advertising, has anyone noticed the bar charts the new Polycase print ad? The last time I checked, a taller bar was supposed to indicate a greater value than the shorter bar. The folks who assembled the ad seem to think that this doesn't really matter. Lower kinetic energy value for a Polycase cartridge versus a conventional type?...Let's give it a taller bar anyway.

The kids are Janice and Richard Garand.
Is Janice holding a Gas Trap?

Light Rifle V is finally underway. I have no idea when it will be done, but it's at least begun.

It's been a while since I got stymied on Light Rifle (and then a lot else got in the way), but tonight's the night I get back to work in earnest on LR5.

That's effectively how SIG-Sauer made their original stamped P22#-series slides. They welded a nosepiece to the stamping in order to close the front of the slide.
