One word: agony.
Seriously. Why not dump the whole project? Just a waste of money, for nothing to gain. A few barely functional tanks used for propaganda? Worth it? I think buying more T-90M with added APS would be far better and logical decision.
Most of these new projects (Armata, Kurganets, Bumerang) doomed it looks like. The 2S35 is probably the only one worth saving, probably mature enough to start serial production.
You right. Russia could not afford a new tank 10 years ago. It can’t even now. T-90M have some troubles with his subcaliber shells. But this isn't much troubles and can be solved.
At the moment, we have a long project that does not fit into any time frame. It just touched the future. A more realistic layout of past developments (I mean Object 195).
Personally, I regret that the Ministry of Defense followed the path of new tanks and large expenses. And not along the path of further modernization of the T-90 -

M1A2C, note the 81 weight mark on the hull.
Are there anyone who knows what this means?
Exact weight or weight group designation?
UPD: It seems like it's really an indication of weight. -

Does anyone have more photos of this DONAR howitzer? Or is it Photoshop?

That was half a century a go and I can't imagine that a 5,45 bullet fired at 735 m/s could have similar trajectory as RPG round at 130 m/s.
Much in the Russian army is archaic. Including among new developments. Comrade Looser correctly said that it would be cheaper to use a rangefinder.
But at one time, Russian tank crewmans removed the DVE-BS wind sensors from the tanks. Because they did not know how to use them.
Maybe with the rangefinders in the 21st century the same situation?

Why AKS-U?
For more accurate aiming. It is load with tracer bullets.
M50 Ontos have rifles for same purposes. And AKSU probably because the ballistics is the same -

This one is (or might be) indeed new - in a sense that it (probably) was created recently -

Probably a prototype of some sorts.
as I remember - this is a biathlon tank
These shutters are designed in 2010. And they reached T-72 just now, because it is incredibly expensive! -

Yes, this is Object 291. It was created on the basis of the T-80U, but never received the designation T-80UM.
There is a T-80UA - a modernization of the T-80U with minor changes to the fire control system and sight. With the "Agava-2".
And there are T-80UM-1 and 2 - platforms for testing ADS. -

The Challenger 2 never used a Wegmann smoke grenade discharging system.
He means that the new system is german. And the old one Wegmann was mounted on Leopard 2 mbt's.
