  1. Taking into account that T-72B from different years have different frontal armor layout i would expect that different models of T-90s also have different armor. IIRC during live fire test T-90 showed iteslf to be better protected than T-80U.

    It's a possibility for sure... I was hearing some ~680 mm LOS thickness, which seems unlikely given the size of the interior. Another theory is that it uses two extra layers of bulging armor.

    That Object-430 is one smooth looking chi...I mean tank.

  2. India hasn't really expressed interest in the T-90MS. They are more interested in their own design; the T-90M Bhishma. That being said, Relikt/Kalina upgrades wouldn't surprise me.

    VT-4 is on the scale of the T-90A, hardly a competitor for the T-14. As I mentioned, Pakistan rejected the tank for being too little of an improvement versus the older, even outdated, VT-2.

  3. The ones shown at the parade were fully functioning, possibly with the exception of a few things. Proof is in the fact they were sent to trials immediately after...

    The T-14 with the roof hatch opens also has the commanders gun removed. It looks like it was receiving maintenance after trialing of some sort.

  4. That will be not very impressive for 2030...

    I suspect something just a bit creative. Maybe French designers will manage to push unmanned design based on one of Leclerc proposals.

    Well, we are talking about Europe here.  :P They'll stick to what they are good at, and add a few things.

  5. IIRC, they were claiming the design would be finished around, or after 2025. One can still try to guess the features though, and I think we will see;

    - Modular AMAP armor.

    - AMAP APS.

    - Bustle-loader, probably from the French.

    - 1800 hp diesel.

    - Pneumatic suspension.

    Etc etc...

  6. APS needs the millimeter wave radar to be on, to get an accurate fix on the incoming threat, and for the computers to generate some sort of fire control solution for the APS in a timely fashion.

    ERA is always on.

    ERA cannot be jammed.

    If it can engage a 1,700 m/s target, it probably won't take long to engage a 3,000 m/s target. Zaslon can actually hit ~1,700 m/s APFSDS but is only rated at 1,200 m/s, so Afganit may already be up there.

    We all know Relikt can be jammed, because it uses radar, because wiki says so.  :mellow:

  7. There was a Russian that made a post on Armoured Warfare saying that the T-14 was going to get Nakidka 2 camouflage,  Improved Kaktus Electric reactive armour and the 2A83-1M gun,  Funny that he's posts were deleted and both he's Russian and English accounts were permanently banned, I know of this from kittyhugs who reposted he's posts.

    But the first time i saw that Kaktus was a Electric reactive armour was from kittyhugs reposts and he likes to Troll,  Isn't Kaktus a explosive reactive armour?,  Kaktus was on the Object 640 back in 1999 yes?,  why has it not been put into service for like 15 years now?,  Didnt Kaktus and Relikt start development in the 1980s?,  So either Kaktus is (Crap) (to Expensive) (to Complicated) or just not ready for use yet.

    No such thing as "Nakidna-2". From what I heard it is a new RAM paint that also hides IR/thermal radiation, rather than being a fabric. Kaktus never properly finished development and was only intended for the Object-640. No such thing as a "2A83-1M" gun either...it is 2A82-1M, but that was confirmed a long time ago.

    Russia hasn't put much thought into electric armor, because it is practically pointless, a waste of energy, and has no use against KE rounds. Kaktus isn't in service because it probably can't be adapted to current models, and Relikt is seemingly superior anyway.

  8. This is the thing;

    The US doesn't have their hands on Relikt, they might not even know the exact layout of it. As such, it is dubious to claim it can *defeat something it was never tested against*. The only feasible way of defeating Relikt is to use multiple tips, which are sacrificed during the process of defeating the ERA. Problem with this is that mass (and hence penetration) will be lost in the process.

    T-14 doesn't use Relikt, it either uses an improved version of it, or something completely different.

    With 7 gears, a high power-to-weight ratio, lot of torque, and a low ground pressure, cross-country speed should be at least 55 km/h. I can't tell you how fast it can accelerate, but I can tell you that it will be faster than anything in service right now.

    T-14 might become unmanned eventually, but it is a long way off.
