Annexation of Crimea.

Oh, that is rather close.
I'm pretty dubious that MiG working on anything serious. Where would the money come from? Will India suddenly have an attack of sanity and realize that they should just buy all their weapons from Russian and stop trying to make them on their own so they can focus on activities they're good at?
I suspect that the LMFS (or whatever it will be called) will take a lot from current models in order to keep costs down, along with tech from the T-50. Development probably wouldn't cost much as a result, it is the production process that could get expensive...then again, in large enough quantity, it could be done.
MiG will be getting at least 1 contract for the -35 with the Russian MOD, and probably a few others elsewhere. I suspect that India will buy a few to begin replacing their older MiG's (something that the Rafale, FGFA, and Tejas can not do). That would easily give the company enough money to get everything in motion.
I'd also think that India will help fund it, for an eventual technology transfer (they want to build their own lightweight fifth gen).

"Has failed a major engine failure" - Oh, the irony in that statement.
Thank you LoooSeR, PutinTrolls™ appreciates the kind words. Expect a few Ruble's coming your way.
-
According to Defense.pk, the Oplot-M unit in Pakistan has failed a major engine failure (enough so to where they need a whole new unit), and the testing process is halted. The engine will be shipped via sea and will take 6 months to arrive in Pakistan. That basically means it has failed testing and will not be procured.
Which...in turn means Pakistan will go for the T-90MS or a Type-99A2 (rumored they will get one for testing).
It's also funny to note that Harkonnen, a well-known Kharkovite, never peeped a word after this news came out. Oh the joy of being a URALSTRONK'er.

For the PAK-FA, there was one that was supposedly official (based off of the accuracy, it was);
A few other ones got the rear geometry spot on, and everything else far off.
There are a few LMFS drawings from a guy at IDF, similar to the T-50, but it probably isn't far off; http://defenceforumindia.com/forum/threads/russia-to-develop-light-class-fighter-jet.56925/
I suspect it will be a MiGified T-50 with one engine...but it could be completely different, I obviously don't know.

Coax definitely wasn't the word I meant to use... A mount similar to the Czech design (ie independent of the gun) might be able to work. I think it is just a matter of the ammunition size, how many rounds can be carried, and if it is really worthwhile. Epoch with the 30 mm auto-cannon and 57 mm grenade launcher will be very interesting.
-
I do still wonder if we will see a special coax on T-14 eventually. The 57 mm autocannon would certainly be interesting, especially for anti-personnel and structure usage.
-
Indeed...though the USSR themselves knew that the STEF design wouldn't last for very long.
If early-glacis + 16 mm HHS plate can defend from the Hetz at ~500 meters, the later glacis could at any range.
-
Basically they are wrong. It will not be "based" on the 1.44, at all. Rather it will be based on lessons learned from the 1.44 program and design.
I still think the early LMFS renders were mot far off. PAK-FA's concept renders were rather close to what it was.
-
Well, late 70's design...and by then, the T-72/64 had fielded composite armor (at higher thickness than the Merk 1), 125 smoothbores etc. It could be said that the Merk was behind the times in that respect.
-
1100 mm? Holy bollocks yes please. Hopefully Armata isn't too far off.
-
He could be updating it with more information, I wouldn't worry.
-
Ohh how could i not notice! That Kurganets have 9K23BM "Log-M1" equipment installed! Most important part of any Soviet/Russian AFV is on its place, vehicle is ready for combat.
I actually got fooled for a second there.

FTA is Gawker.
Case in point ^

"Coffin of 7 brothers" refers to the M3 Lee in Russian service, not the T-34.
-
This seems to be the hot trend nowadays, somewhat maneuvering artillery shells. IIRC the 2S35 will be getting a GLONASS based shell that can also be updated via some sort of radio signal, not dissimilar to this.

Not what I'm describing. The Challenger-series has a literal cut-out around the drivers hatch, which creates a massively weak area behind it. This a trait that no other tank shares, AFAIK.
Thinning is almost universal, unless the armor is super-well angled and hence thin to begin with.
-
That issue is easily the worst on the Chally 1 and 2. The armor rear of the driver (which, mind you, goes straight into the turret compartment) is only a few inches thick, if that. The driver's location also forces the LFP to be rather thin, hence why the up-armored models like the one shown here, have an external composite layout.
-
Those are M1A2SA Abrams tanks, export version, generally same as US M1A2, but without Holy DU/ceramics in frontal armor.
AFAIK Saudi Arabia got a special armor package that is probably more effective than the others, excluding the DU.
-
BMP-1 was actually quite a bit faster, especially because the T-64 was no speed demon.
-
A...working scramjet? I wonder if Russia/China have transferred information on them, given that the Zircon missile will use one.
-
It's nice to see the F-35 actually getting bashed a little bit.
As Tied said, the F-35 is similar to the M2 in that it tried to accomplish so many different things. A dedicated CAS bird will do a better go at CAS than the F-35, a dedicated Air Superiorty fighter will do better at AS than the F-35 etc etc. Multi-role aircraft are fine, but they can't be expected to be the one solution to every problem...as the USAF believes it will be.

I never knew how advanced Rusnano and all their partner companies were. NEVZ has been creating Boron Carbide ceramics, which are known to be the hardest ceramics made today in their pure form (while also being extremely light-weight, at only 2.5 g/cm3). NEVZ is also an expert in nano-structured ceramics (which is mostly relevant to Al2o3 from what I gather), which significantly increase hardness while simultaneously lowering weight. Germany claims that the nano-structured Alumina they use in AMAP is 70% harder, and 30% lighter than the normal stuff, to give you an idea. Neither of these are exclusive to NEVZ, but impressive nonetheless.
Sygma specializes in coating with nano-ceramics. They have partnered with NEVZ in research, development, testing, and production. Nano-coating ceramics (not sure with what exactly) helps to keep them performing well under stress, low temperatures etc. According to a video (I'd need a translation to confirm) on YouTube, they have begun working with a Aluminum/Carbon-nanotube mixture.(?)
