It is actually the terminal stupidity of sequestration.  The politicos of the time knew that they could screw the US government and when the rubber hit the road no one would equate that stupid time to them.  A lot of chickenhawks scream to their constituents about how they love defense, let that bit of stupid theatre mess up defense spending for decades to come.

I would consider buying a computer if I were getting it for work, in which case having a warranty on the thing as a whole is a big enough consideration to more than offset the cost and loss of amusement. Other than that, I enjoy optimizing things and building them far too much, and getting exactly what I wanted is all kinds of satisfying. There's also a real nice feeling that comes from knowing the ins and outs of a thing you use. It's like how people speak of cars they built or restored.
 
Plus, it's easy, especially in nice modern cases with cable ties and everything.

It is an interesting turnaround since the three officers who braced the guy are Black and the whiny, self-entitled guy who has little understanding of the law complaining about his rights being abused is White. Those cops were about as restrained as one could get.

I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been more incidents where these guys have been blown away. Which tells me they aren't OC'ing rifles everywhere, everyday either and are only doing it at a handful of locations after bragging about it on the Open Carry forum first.

This is not uncommon in history.  During the Great War better than half of the weapons made for the allies were made in the US, and the loans that paid for them came from US banks.  BEFORE US entry into the war the US was the largest participant in terms of dollars invested in fighting.  While allowing millions of US soldiers onto the continent trained to the highest standard of small unit advance tactics was stupid on the part of Germany, they had been fighting the US already for three years.

In defense seminars it is said if you want to build up your defenses cozy up to the US, if you want to invade your neighbor call the US names and collect the check from Russia.  Getting US aid is like buying from the Apple store - great products that go bang every time and look good doing it, but you do it Apple's way of no way at all.  Russia is like the Dell store - cheap beige boxes which work (sometimes) but no one cares if you run your child porn empire on it.
 
Israeli criticism of the US has become existential and dangerous.  In Israeli Likud circles the US is referred to quite openly as a weak and overbearing nation of idiots, and there is wistful talk that Israel would prefer a supporting nation that had the technology and money of the US, but the social and foreign policy of Russia.

If you open carry as a person going about their way, that's a totally different thing from open carrying as a person open carrying because they will feel the reminder they have deadly force at hand is something that will protect them from a nebulous political threat or something.

There's plenty of ways to make sure they get appropriate punishment without deciding that because we're the good guys we can do the sort of thing that would make anybody else immediately stop being the good guys, and I'm glad someone else agrees.

Viridea is pretty much spot on, IMHO.  I was gravely disappointed with some of the shit that I found out about went on from both the US and Canada during the 'war on terror'.

ISIS POWs will (and should) have all of the rights of a prisoner under the various conventions.  Faced with barbarism the protectors of civilization cannot give up the high ground - the US never should have played loose with the WoT.
 
That said it is relatively easy to hold tribunals to assure that most of ISIS actors get some sort of punishment.

I'd say the biggest danger should be escalating matters past where the power you have in that situation (personal combat prowess, social ties you possess, ways you have to damage the social ties of the opposite party, or ways to make it worthwhile for the opposite party to work with you), and the fallout depending on how far you escalated things. Most conflict I'd expect to be maneuvering around against similarly powerful people to try and get an advantage and trying to turn the works of those more powerful to your benefit, all of which is centered on the party and how they fit into the world.
 
Smaller dangers should be failing to press things to where you get benefits out of resolving a situation and damaging your sources of power by drawing on them too much, be it the favor of a somebody above you, a group of troops or just actually having to use blackmail material.
