  1. He was apparently in on the whole controversy of the "gun that shall not be named" a month ago. I remember you guys showing some conversations he was having with other weirdos.
  2. One of a few reasons why I'm not big on James' videos. I really can't work up the enthusiasm for Yet Another black polymer rifle. That, and the videos have an obnoxious habit of just being minutes of him standing in front of the camera and just holding the gun out on front of him for long periods of time. I liked his Black Friday video, though.
  3. The AR-10 looks like it would have hurt to fire for any extended time. Speaking of which, every video I've seen of the G11 looks like it has nasty recoil
  4. I want to like Larry Vickers, but he needs to get his cameraman off of coke, and get himself some pronunciation coaching. The FG-42 probably suffered the most from being hard to get a hold of. You couldn't really got analysis beyond a few people who fired them and what specs could be relayed. Everything else was just more reactionary response due to limited info. I'm sure it wasn't the future-is-now weapon some make it out to be, but it was a solid concept with some impressive tech for the time. I'm especially interested in how switching from semi to auto reconfigures it to open bolt. The Smithsonian Channel has this neat show called The Weapon Hunter. If I remember, he went into pretty decent detail about the FG-42, and even got camera time with rare items like those flare guns that the Fallschirm converted into grenade launchers. He definitely seems worth a watch, as I've seen quite a few episodes and not heard one ridiculous myth out of his mouth (funny that's a genuine pro to a show, but there we are). I was surprised how well the guy knew his stuff. Hell, I was just amazed that he dubbed the PaK 40 as the biggest danger to Allied tanks, instead of Tigers or 88s. There was even an episode that showed him going around for parts to fix up an old M10.
  5. Finally got to put some decent ammo in the Enfield today. 50 yds, standing unsupported, first six rounds I put in: I really need to give PPU some props. Not only do these guys make modern affordable versions of rare rifle rounds, they make them damned good, too. I guess if I was some fucking Facebook Dad, I'd post that with something like "When you meet your daughter's new boyfriend... and he extends his hand to shake yours... hand him this!!!" Also, took my dad's Mini-14 out for the first time in a while. I really need to give him credit for how well he takes care of all of his guns. This thing is forty years old:
  6. Alex how dare you call the Galil an assault rifle. You should have called it a Puppy and Family Protection Machine.
  7. Are they still planning on releasing that M43 wooden thing they were showing off way back? Also, I always get the feeling that I have to read Ian's body language more than listen to his words about evaluating gun performance. I've seen some contradictions between what he's said about weapon recoil, and what it looks like he's experienced, for example. It could just be he's had different relative views for this sort of thing or doesn't wish to offend a gun's owner or something, but that MOA for the RFB is kind of upsetting. I'm open to being 100% wrong, though, too.
  8. Don't shorter people usually make better fighters of comparable weight due to things like center of gravity? I'm split. If someone wants to serve and is able, let them. My issues are the Army's severe sexual assault issues, fraternization, lax requirements for admittance (that have been going for 10+ years), and a possible logistical problem. I'd want to see a better reporting system for assault (which is absolutely shitty to hold women back with, but it's still a problem), and enough female infantry volunteers so that it could warrant the necessary logistical setbacks. Otherwise, I'm sure there are women out there that would make better soldiers/officers than men just like vice-versa.
  9. Interesting, but the way he wrote that gives me a headache. It's like someone's reading it monotone with few pauses. It's certainly more intriguing than the purely circumstantial claims I've heard from other people.
  10. It is interesting that Romania didn't downscale its military as hard as former Soviet satellites/influenced states. As far as I can tell, they're still a customer, if not just lagging behind the times a bit.
  11. It's weird that I can probably easily spot this thing at distance out of a lineup of about 1,000 government letters at this point.
  12. Here's a question: Does anyone out there believe that there is a bullpup that can stand up next to an AK or AR as a service rifle? I'm not talking about at the range. I'm talking about long-term punishing service with mechanical rigidity, operability, easy maintenance and repair, high production, affordability, the works. The AUG is perhaps the closest thing in my mind, but I have read grumblings from places like Australia when it comes to them. I've heard good things about the QBZ 95, but that's only me hearing things.
  13. Haha, but you know what I mean. "Some of you have never seen a plane with your own two eyes. Well there's gonna be a bunch of them trying to kill you, and some of you will either fly them or work on them."
  14. Got some stuff compiled. Gonna try to have the blog up sometime this week.
  15. Prvi must have some serious contracts. I can't think of a lot of other reasons why stuff like .303 is so cheap from them. I've had a better experience shooting both their 150gr. and 175gr. for half the price of any competitor.
  16. I wrote another big self-excusing write-up, but I think most of us get a little salty because it gets frustrating when you try to inform, and people don't even want to take the information you give them. It's not that they know the drawbacks of a Tiger or the shortcomings of Rommel and choose to come out with a favorable opinion, it's just that they won't accept the realities, period. It's incredibly frustrating, so we play with each other with the discussion to let off steam for the most part. As a branch to the thread and to my Teutonic ancestors, a picture of the Loewe-made Argentine Mauser that's been in the family for 70 years:
  17. You seriously don't know the well of hilarity that is Pennsylvania Dutch names. Half of Centre County is surnamed either "Butt" or "Boob"
  18. Eh, was curious. it stood out among the piles usual gun shop affair. Certainly seemed low, and it looked very well-preserved and cared for.. It's at some outdoors shop called Dunkleberger's in Stroudsburg, PA.
