  1. So you do not think the figures are highly suspect, and /or open to manipulation? Okay then.. All that aside, You're still missing the point.. There is -no- "proper" definition of "spree killer" or "spree killing". It's a term that is used and was invented to do nothing more than inflame emotions and sell newspapers, elect more politicians of dubious honesty or justify more bureaucratic parasites. It serves no functional purpose otherwise.
  2. The town drunk has designs and concerns extending no further than his next drink. There is a large difference between what the local bar-rag says, and what the supposed "leader" of a major nation states. (or what is pushed by major "news" groups). As to your metric, you've eliminated a great deal of what you're claiming the U.S. produces, as many of those you'd assign suffered from mental illness that renders your "making a point" article, moot. How does one "make a point" when it's demonstrably insane, and how is it applicable to your definition? Well, maybe if you have an agenda to push and are running for office it is.. Or when you are trying to up your viewership/readership/get that program money.. Otherwise it's "Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics".
  3. That link has more to do with illustrating how politicians and the media will "work" figures, than what you're seeing. All in all, the data one finds on this subject is always subject to bias, no one source has (nor is willing) to give an honest picture as it'd raise all kinds of political (and funding related) issues. An example of this is the more than fuzzy definition of "mass shooting".. It will change depending on who you talk to.
  4. How many do you think the U.S. "commonly" sees a year? (ETA a fun link for your edification )~ http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2015/jun/22/barack-obama/barack-obama-correct-mass-killings-dont-happen-oth/
  5. They are not common here, either. The hype created around them is what makes them seem more common than they are.
  6. It's basically a rifle/gl launched grappling hook for grabbing tripwires, CD leads or the like. There are similar devices that mount on the NATO standard 22mm flash-hider. They're amusing to mess with but get beat up VERY quickly.
  7. Sometimes you can hear the windings sing, and the common switch config is "off/high/med/low/off". If you're really slick you have a wall mounted chopper and you never touch the fan mounted switch.
  8. Of course, biodegradable even. The pudding will also be Kosher, Halal, vegan friendly and packaged in a manner that is as inoffensive as possible while maximizing profits/kickback potential for the company supplying it.
  9. More like "carry pamphlets, prophylactics and pudding" for the proper pacification of whatever populace is being dealt with.
  10. You might be (or may not) be amazed to learn of how many proposals there are to cut veteran's benefits, or levy taxes on them.
  11. And if you grew up in a really old houselike I did, you had push-buttons or twist "snap" switches. As to "mass shootings" I remind people that a lot of the perception they have about gun crime and firearms ownership, comes from the way the U.S. media reports on it.
  12. I've had a chance to mess with a Pedersen already. I rather liked the rear sight design. The really weird one I handled was a Farquhar-Hill. Did not get to shoot it (for obvious reasons).
  13. How did you like the Walther? Always found them to be an interesting little subgun. The G36 is 'meh' but everyone should shoot one, at least once.
  14. More art/photography- And lastly, one of my favorite between the wars aircraft.
  15. That could be a beautiful piece if they lost the forward cocking serrations, the squared triggerguard and the cheesegrater. Slim down/pare down the area forward of the triggerguard and it'd be a very graceful looking pistol.
  16. Just love the lines of the early MiG's.. Very reminiscent of the Caudron racers.. And speaking of French aircraft- If you've never seen one of these up close, they are surprisingly compact for a "modern" fighter.
  17. The real stuff was not very bulletproof either. The helmet browplate was the most useful bit of the kit. Goldsmith's Maxim book has some images of the gunner's armor just shot full of holes.
  18. Would not shock me to learn that Bic used a variant of that slogan for their lighters.. An aside, Ronson used to make a model of lighter called a "Comet".. Let that sink in a moment..
  19. Suggest downloading then reading, it's a good document. Lots of neat stuff.
  20. Depends on what it was being shot at.. Some of the SAM's of the era were huge and slow..
  21. That's why I'm guessing the IR would just make a minor adjustment right at launch, and the sheer velocity would make subsequent ones unneeded. I'd wonder what the expected range of intercept was, with max being ~80 miles, so the functional average projected range would make guidance much after launch pretty much un-needed. With the thing massing ~500 pounds, the warhead would kind of be just a happy little "fuck you", since the kinetic energy of the megafrisbee itself, would be pretty impressive.
