I believe Tim got a few things wrong in his timeline.  The original Daewoo K1A and K2 were caught by the GHW Bush import ban of 1989.  This led to creation of the thumbhole stock models that were ultimately killed during the Clinton administration's tightening of the "Sporting Purposes" characteristics for importation.

The South Korean and Singaporean governments each went to domestic designs in part due to the fact that they were not able to export their license-produced M16 rifles without the permission of Colt and the US State Department.  And it didn't help that the US government caught each of them trying to dodge this requirement on multiple occasions.  You'll note that Jim Sullivan moved to Singapore during the time that he designed the Ultimax 100 in an attempt to evade the State Department's weapon export restrictions.  This gambit would no longer be legal.

    I corrected him:

Hello Sootch, this is Nathaniel F of The Firearm Blog. I have a minor correction to make on your video; you say that Ed Browning was the chief designer of the M1 Carbine; that is not true. In fact, by the time Ordnance solicited Winchester and other companies to begin developing a "Light Rifle" (not to be confused with the Lightweight Rifle project that later led to the M14 and FAL), in June of 1940, Ed Browning had already died (in 1939).

The weapon that became the M1 Carbine was not Williams' rifle, either. Williams was known by Winchester CEO Edwin Pugsley to be a man who wouldn't work on a schedule, as he was a perfectionist (and also a psychopath). The team that developed Winchester's carbine submission was actually headed by William C. Roemer and Fred Humeston, although Williams did help troubleshoot the design before tests, and contributed directly towards the Winchester carbine's adoption.

Williams had his own line of rifle designs, which began with his G30M, which was a modification of Ed Browning's design. However, it's little-known that Ed Browning's rifle (which under Winchester was designated G30, and which was found very unsatisfactory) was an annular-piston, pivoting-breechblock design, where the G30M redesigned by Marshall after Browning's death used the same locking system, but mating that to the tappet gas system he invented. The G30M was not satisfactory, and Williams was tasked with fixing it. Instead, he designed a totally new rifle from the ground up, which became the G30R, and led to the Winchester Automatic Rifle, the Williams Carbine (finally completed in 1945), and the Williams .50 caliber semiautomatic rifle, as well as the post-war Winchester Lightweight Military Rifle (LMR). All these weapons used a rotary bolt similar to the M1 Carbine, coupled with Williams tappet gas system, and have virtually nothing in common with Ed Browning's rifle.

I have all of the post-WW2 editions.  The 10th, 11th and 12th editions are the best.  The last two were put together by Dr. Edward Ezell.

I once stumbled across a former Remington executive's page where he claimed to have worked on the LVAW proposal for the Combat Applications Group.  Remington's LVAW submission would have been the AAC Honey Badger.

After claiming that I wouldn't be able to complete the ARP Kongo and Myoko missions, I seem to be well on course to completing both.  Yesterday, I managed to down the last of 150 fighters needed for Stage 2 on the Kongo.  Strangely, I did this on the backs of DD, BB, and CA/CL other than the Cleveland.  The MM refused give my Cleveland much in the way of carrier matches.  I'm now on the downhill slide of Stage 3 to the Kongo.  A few more games should grind out the remaining damage.  As I've been concentrating on my Tier 6 cruisers, so I'm also on a good start with the Stage 2 fire requirement for the Myoko after I finally eked out my last few DD kills needed for Stage 1.

Learn how to shoot a DA revolver.  Seriously, once you master the DA stroke, you'll never need to thumb cock again.

The rifle in question was likely the AR-1 or another early ArmaLite bolt action.

Also note that Burton Miller became VP at ArmaLite after he retired from the USAF in 1963.

Just took my Konigsberg out for her maiden voyage.  Dear heavens, she is OP!  I can basically smite anything within range.  I even scored a citadel on an Arkansas with a plunging shell.

The weird thing about the match was that the enemy Bogue spawned just outside our cap on Ocean.  The counter hit zero, and there she was...12 clicks ahead.  Needless to say, she was smothered with shells and sent to a watery grave.

Great news, guys, the editor was really impressed with how well the translated 5.45 article did, and wants more. So that means part 2, and probably some more really interesting articles from that magazine!

MMmmmm... Chinese Type 81 derivative, the "EM356".

Basically these were at the 1989 SHOT Show but were banned by the Bush EO the next month.
Apparently three came in as importer samples, all with different stock configs.

    From a source of mine:
"I spoke to someone who owns a couple other of these (the fixed stock and underfloor examples. Apparently none of them came into the US with magazines, and it appears the magazines were never even fully developed for them. Yours and the other two are the only ones made it would seem."

So after spending a lot of time with a dremel, a managed to get a Beryl magazine to fit.

    I tried:
    Valmet M76
    Galil
    AK74
    Norinco 5.56
    Beryl
    SAR 3/Waffle

And all of them were not even close to fitting in factory config.

It is a HK GR9S.  It is a variant of the HK23E with an integral optic and sand camo finish.  There was also a woodland camo variant named the GR9C.
