Scolopax reacted to Meplat in The Small Arms Thread, Part 8: 2018; ICSR to be replaced by US Army with interim 15mm Revolver Cannon.
The last pocket auto I owned was a WaltherPP, so I have to ask -"What is the function of the wee little bits and screw in the plastic bag?" Is it some kind of "included display base" like an old model airplane kit would come with, so you can mount it as a hood-ornament?.
I left the project early because they insisted on using flint-locks instead of the well proven snaphaunce.
The square bullets were intended to be wee paperboard cartons filled with bits of gravel and scrap metal, liberally coated in excreta, termed "munitions for the encouragement of unwelcome individuals to relocate their fornicative meatslappery from thine sight", but too many found it offensive (Which was the whole point of course, since a polite request for the offending individuals to "Fuck off over there, 'kay?" had obviously been rebuffed) so they went with "Square bullets for the shooting of darkies" or some such.
We did not come up with socket wrenches til much later.

Scolopax reacted to Donward in The Shipwreck News Thread
Researchers explored the wreck of the US Navy's USS Macon, a lighter than air ship which crashed in the Pacific off of California 80 years ago.

The researchers are learning how materials like aluminum hold up in salt water and how to preserve them.

I would agree with that, especially since there seems to be some form of mounting or attachment on the exhaust grill. I've never seen such a thing on an Abrams before though.
Edit:
Yep, here we go

I was there during this. Part of MND-N Tuzla. First time I ever worked with Russian soldiers (who got a kick of me understanding Russian.)

Comrade Xi Jinping wonders if the new Type 99 MBT will at least have enough power to weight ratio and low-range acceleration to squash protesters.

I don't recall when or why, but the Russians did receive one example of an M26 before the war's end.
