LostCosmonaut
Onions (both regular and other) are a versatile vegetable which can be used to add flavor to many other food products. I think they're pretty good, personally. During my poor college days (last week), I once ate meal consisting entirely of chopped potatos and onions mixed together and fried. It was actually quite palatable. Sturgeon
Belesarius
Home fries with onions are amazing. Add a bit of seasoned salt and pepper and you have winning. I would generally add a protein with it to make it a meal tho.

Cooked down, grilled and raw onions are all excellent ways to add a bit of flavor and/or texture to a meal. For quick and easy vegetable accompaniment, grilled peppers and onions are dead solid awesome as well. Belesarius
Xlucine
Peppers are great, everyone needs more peppers. They're so versatile
Donward
Eh. Peppers are OK if you want your food to taste just like peppers. Onions on the other hand can add flavor that works in conjunction with other ingredients.
EnsignExpendable
Caramelized onions are an amazing condiment, I have them on my perogies and hamburgers all the time despite my decadent affluence.
Donward
I use onion rings and milkshakes as a way to gauge "good" hamburger joints.

If I made a million dollars a day I would still enjoy perogies and caramelized onions. Belesarius
LostCosmonaut
Honestly, I could probably live for weeks on potatoes, onions, and some sort of meat product (provided appropriate seasoning and cooking utensils).
Donward
Onions. Peppers. Potatoes. All well and good. But it seems the oldest side dish just might be mushrooms. http://www.mpg.de/9173780/mushrooms-food-source-stone-age (I can't stand mushrooms)
xthetenth
Honestly, I could probably live for weeks on potatoes, onions, and some sort of meat product (provided appropriate seasoning and cooking utensils). Potatoes, milk, and onions for me. The potatoes and milk are close enough to a balanced diet for quite a while, and the onions will keep me from breaking down. (Then again I'm the sort who considers pea/lentil soup for a week to be perfectly acceptable cooking). Mushrooms are only good when used appropriately. A proper marsala sauce is fantastic, but using mushrooms without care leads to unappealing messes.
