  1. No surprise to those of us in the know. But still...

Cops and schools had no duty to shield students in Parkland shooting, says judge who tossed lawsuit

    https://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/parkland/florida-school-shooting/fl-ne-douglas-survivor-lawsuit-federal-judge-20181217-story.html

A federal judge says Broward schools and the Sheriff’s Office had no legal duty to protect students during the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom dismissed a suit filed by 15 students who claimed they were traumatized by the crisis in February. The suit named six defendants, including the Broward school district and the Broward Sheriff’s Office, as well as school deputy Scot Peterson and campus monitor Andrew Medina.

Bloom ruled that the two agencies had no constitutional duty to protect students who were not in custody.

  2. Young Oregonians fight to buy guns, ammo -- and sue when they’re denied

    https://www.oregonlive.com/news/2018/12/young-oregonians-fight-to-buy-guns-ammo-and-sue-when-theyre-denied.html

Oregon courts and state regulators have been asked to rule on the legalities of policies enacted by major retailers in the weeks after the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14. Seventeen students and staff died after a 19-year-old former student opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

  3. Two Minneapolis police officers placed on leave after racist Christmas tree display

Longtime civil rights activist Ron Edwards called the Fourth Precinct tree decorations — a Newport cigarette pack, a can of Steel Reserve malt liquor, police tape, a bag of Takis and a cup from Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen — a “wink wink” to racist stereotypes.

A relative who worked for Ford as a "contractor" mentioned that there was scuttlebutt about "looking into no longer "selling" a vehicle", instead you buy a "seat", allowing you to operate it for a length of time, similar to a lease, but the vehicle is constantly on the net.

He asked what I thought about it. I said " I'd be looking hard at finding a Dodge WC series truck, and converting it to 12 volts".

And then one day there’ll be an earthquake or a forest fire like what happened today in Anchorage or couple weeks ago in Cali which knocks out cell coverage and your brand new computer on wheels won’t start because it doesn’t have a signal.

  5. Yeah, we run into that issue with Deere and their proprietary software and whatnot.

On the otherhand, there are a shit ton of farmers trying to work on and “fix” equipment where you have to be a trained mechanic to even look at the shit. Two of our guys completely destroyed - like ten or twenty grand worth of repairs - a brand new wheeled tractor after swapping out the rear tires incorrectly. They were both Boomers and our two “Millennial” employees who kind of knew what they were doing because they actually looked at the manual about the correct procedure tried to talk them out of it but ran into the “we’ve been doing this for years” and decided to let the old farts do it.

    Also, John Deere sucks.

  6. The US taxpayer being shafted for $11 billion was TOTALLY worth it for this

    http://www.thedrive.com/news/25221/2019-chevrolet-silverado-breaks-down-in-the-middle-of-detroit-red-wings-marketing-stunt?fbclid=IwAR2AARBLONAAP38AfurCt2OaAAOpDTYegdJ-XPkMXK-DhDKpuXIcZJTc1O4

Chevrolet spokesperson clarified that the Silverado did not actually "break down" per se. According to the company rep, the Silverado's driver had to turn off the engine while the truck was stationary at the blue line—understandable, since running a hot, internally combusted V-8 in one place, over ice for too long probably isn't ideal. When the truck was restarted, the driver then accidentally accepted a software update, rendering it immobile for the next several minutes. Once the update was done, the Silverado drove off the ice problem-free.

Stan Lee was a hack. I mean Mack Moloney level hack.

I'm actually glad my parents showed a shocking amount of contempt the one time I bought a comic book. The whole medium is trash in my opinion and now just about all Hollywood makes is trash movies based on trash comic books.  Real heroes don't wear tights and have superpowers.

Anyway, bring on the hate! :D

But without Stan Lee... WE wouldn't have Spider Man!

And if we didn't have Spider Man... WE wouldn't have Italian Spider Man!!!

  9. Oregon jail inmates drunk on hand sanitizer escape work crew on ATV, deputies say

    https://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2018/11/oregon_jail_inmates_drunk_on_h.html

It's not clear from the sheriff's office how much hand sanitizer Turre and McCallister drank nor if the other two inmates drank any. The amount of alcohol in hand sanitizer ranges from 45 percent to 95 percent, according to the American Association of Poison Control Centers. Wine has 10 percent to 15 percent alcohol, and beer contains 5 to 10 percent.

    ...

The deputy in charge of supervising the inmates noticed McCallister and Turre were missing around 11:25 a.m. and saw the gate had been forced open. Someone later called 911 and reported seeing the duo speeding in the area on the ATV and riding in circles, the sheriff's office said.

Can you explain this terminology to me?

Forest fires are named after their point of origin, namely Camp Creek Road in this instance.

    https://www.sfgate.com/california-wildfires/article/Why-is-it-called-Camp-Fire-name-Butte-County-destr-13380824.php

I don't know why it's not the "Camp Creek Fire".

    ...

Also, you'll hear about "Complex" fires which are generally multiple different fires that have merged into one.

  11. Good Guy With A Gun in Seattle helps apprehend shit-stain who stabbed ex-girlfriend to death near the Space Needle (the Seattle Center).

Background behind the event and his decision as to why he became a CPL carrier here.

    ...

As for the video itself. This is what you can expect in Seattle. People wandering around obliviously while a murderer with bloody hands is waving a bloody knife around, while a guy holding a handgun is trying to detain him. And the useless rent-a-cops in the video were as worthless as tits on a boar hog. And yeah, that was a rent-a-cop on a fucking Segway.

Also look at the moron with the mace, who was lucky he was stabbed to death. Which shows you how effective that shit is.

Further observation, Good Guy With The Gun did the right thing by immediately putting his gun on the ground when the Seattle Police finally decided to show up.
