If the M829A3 and M829A4 have SUPPOSEDLY the same or similar "Specs" in terms of length of Penetrator and Steel Tip and weight as well as both are supposedly just DU and steel not DU and Tungsten, why/how then is the A4 >100m/s faster than the A3 both fired from M256?

Also, why would A4 need Data-Link? Could this A4 Tip be something completely new? Something that needs to go off at just the right moment?

I dunno, the explanation of what it is/why it's worth investment in all new production for the "same" Round just seems like complete Horse$hit..!

The US Army should stop procuring 120mm APFSDS because you don't know what the data link is for?

Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate (ESDMD) Moon-to-Mars Architecture Definition Document There are many opportunities in executing the ambitious Moon-to-Mars efforts through an integrated architecture. NASA addresses this in its Moon-to-Mars Strategy and Objectives Development2 document (hereafter referred to as the M2M Strategy). Many of these opportunities involve establishing a system engineering framework that can support the breadth of necessary program and system contributions. By applying these needs to nearer-term lunar development, NASA will be instituting the process, procedures, and techniques needed to enable longer-term Mars goals and more. Some of the challenges being addressed in the M2M Strategy are associated with the architecture definition and include broad/changing goals, funding, and external pressures/influences. This document and the methodology outlined for architecture definition have been crafted to contend with these using an iterative and adaptable framework.

The primary purpose of the Architecture Definition Document (ADD) is to capture the methodology, organization, and decomposition necessary to translate the broad objectives outlined in the M2M Strategy into functions and use cases that can be allocated to implementable programs and projects. Inherent in this process will be the need to communicate the long-term vision, maintain traceability to responsible parties, and iterate on the architectural implementation as innovations and solutions develop. This document will be updated and improved in conjunction with the Architecture Concept Review (ACR) which will be held annually to help unify the Agency and to get buy-in and input from across the Agency on the human exploration architecture. The annual nature of the process provides the opportunity to continually incorporate new developments in technologies and new partnerships, whether they be with industry, the U.S. Government, international entities, or academia.

There really is a lot here and is worth reading if you are interested in NASA's plans to go to the Moon and Mars.

"`AM General LLC, South Bend, Indiana, was awarded a $4,653,330,000 firm-fixed-price contract for Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, trailers, kits and services to support production. Bids were solicited via the internet with two received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Feb. 9, 2028. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting activity (W56HZV-23-F-0294). `"

  4. Blue Origin's team (with a drastically improved lander) was selected to make the second HLS system which will first take people to the Moon on Artemis V after SpaceX's Starship does for Artemis III and IV.

It is noteworthy that both landers will require in orbit refueling with cryogenic propellants.

The zero hydrogen boiloff tech that Blue Origin has to develop for their lander will be very valuable to NASA.
