What was the average Gulag prisoner population over that stretch? We can calculate that about 5% death rates for the Gulag system over Stalin's reign so we should be able to calculate the amount of prisoner deaths if we have the population.

Also the gulag encompassed the entirety of the USSR's penal needs, because of that not all of them were imprisoned due to political repression. According CGAOR USSR only 32.9% of the imprisoned were charged with "counterrevolutionary activity".
