Well you see, an aircraft must meet the requirement of "being able to actually fly."

Stealth is hard. And the Japanese were almost certain that they could get the US to coming around to sell the Raptor, as were the Australians for a while. When they wouldn't they had to crash develop their own program.
That and unlike the Japanese, the Chinese have advanced to the point where their aerospace industry can design and manufacture aircraft without outside help with the JH-7B, J-20 and J-31 being proof of that. (Look at all of Japan's previous fighters, even their "indigenous" ones would've been impossible without US assistance. I'll be fair and not count the J-10 since there is some circumstancial evidence that GD helped with the original project.)
It's like, The USA, Russia, China, and some Euro nations like France and Sweden are really the only ones left capable of designing competitive aircraft these days without outside assistance, Though I'm sure I'll get bitched at for forgetting someone.

The fact that they use small pistol primers is interesting as well. I always thought .45 ACP using large pistol primers seemed odd.
Yeah It's 100% a small sized primer, here's an overhead view for a better shot.
And for those of you who have never seen standard .45 ACP with a large pistol primer, here's a fired Federal HST round casing in .45 ACP.
-
Yeah it was Herter's.
Basically, I bought 2 boxes of these just to try them out in my FNX-45 Tactical, I expected the failure possibility to be high because, not only of the odd jacket but the fact I haven't used aluminum cased ammunition very much, it's also unusual that even the .45 ACP variant uses a small pistol primer instead of a large. The fact it''s like 100% budget ammo also didn't help my concerns.
.....Surprisingly I had zero malfunctions in the slightest and the Nylon jacket left almost no noticeable bore fouling and it cleaned out about as easy as any copper or brass coated bullets after a day of shooting.
The trend of Polymer coated bullets may be an actual thing to look into.
-
I bought some (I think Herter's?) ammunition from Cabela's while visiting relatives that had a blue Nylon coating and an aluminum case.
Federal is late to the party when even store specific brands are doing it.

What's the reasoning for using a stripper clip on a gun with a detachable magazine?
I'm not sure if this the reason with the US tested FALs in particular but, "disposable" magazines for the longest time were anything but disposable, and actually rather expensive a pain in the ass to properly manufacture.
Might've been in the event magazines were low on supply but ammo was more abundant. (at the end of WW2 for example, MP44s had far less impact than people will have you believe, you'd be lucky to even get 30-60 rounds for one, even luckier still to actually get a damn magazine and blessed to get 2 to use them for the damned things.)

Between the lack of information, nationalism, stereotypes, and frankly inane bullshit (Chinese quantum radar sees you fapping!) it is very difficult to discuss Chinese military equipment on the english speaking parts of the internet.
Which is why most of the talking I do regarding the PLA is done on the Chinese speaking parts of the internet very few dare to venture into.

Right. Also notable is that from about 1903-1953, no nation on earth successfully fielded a new caliber under 0.298" in diameter. I find this conspicuous, and refer to it as the "50 Year Period of .30 Cal Dominance". 7mm, 6.5mm, and other cals remained in use during this period, and there experimentals in that range, but nothing new that anyone committed to. On the other hand, new .30 cal rounds were successfully adopted and fielded during this period, so it's not like the field was stagnant.
8x57mm Mauser and 7.92x33mm Kurz were designed during that time and the Germans are always right about everything.

You know, as someone who's a noted fanboy of Czech firearm designs, particularly older or more obscure ones, this gets me strangely erect.
Wish they were full auto as intended however.

Yeah apparently designing good ammo is hard especially without experience of soviets/russians and West. So Chinese cleverly chose "why not both" and hooked up to both western and russian design schools to shore up their weaknesses .As 155 mm chinesse gain benefits of NATO standartisation so new more effective designs quickly spreaded and istead developing entirely new rounds they can either make it better or use moonies on new more effective designs
Lol yes because clearly those dumb Chinese can't possibly figure out the impossible task of ordnance design, neve rmind that a fuckload of research on new and experimental designs you'll find are done in China and organizations like the IBS have like half their members based out of China, they just can't figure out munition design!
Can you not post dumb assumptions that have no backing in reality? it would really help lower the bullshit quota on this forum, thanks.

"I want to see the calculations showing that frontal turret protection against 125mm APFSDS, frontal hull protection against HEAT and engine compartment protection against 14.5mm plus ten degrees of gun depression is possible at 40 tonnes."
MUCH higher protection levels are possible at 50 tons, this has been stated by experts like Hilmes repeatedly. The Japanese Type 10 has a bigger gun and some other weight-increasing extras and still only 44 t empty weight. PLA 125 mm are no doubt the threat that the Japanese looked at.
Besides, I wrote "at about 40 tons". That would be anything from 37-43 metric tons.
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
Oh man, It's a shame you're probably not coming back, because this in particular is a niche subject I would absolutely horsewhip you on.

Well, it was only an M1A, so nothing of value was really lost.

Hey so i found a pic of what looks to be a new belt and mag fed Chinese LMG (I'm saying Chinese mostly because the mags look awfully 5.8 chinese super waffle patterny mostly, don't eviscerate me if I'm wrong plz!)

From what I gathered from asking a Few people (Including Akula.)
-The design first emerged on the internet around late 2016.
-However, no person or company has actually claimed It's theirs publicly and nothing has leaked on it so, unless that happens, no one really knows anything about it. Not even the name if it has one.
Also, this thing, from the looks of it, it appears the JH16 design did infact win the trials for a new Police/SWAT SMG, seen here being posed in a photo op with a member of the Guangzhou SWAT. (Third to the right.)

Yeah i try to stand away from comment sections on public sites.
Or those "muh i can build you a gun for 700 Dollars just give me the contract hur dur"
Or "why dont you take the gun from civilian manufacturer #42 it really runs great for me!"
If the TFB comments section had their way with arms procurement, we'd be back to civil war era levels of effectiveness, if not worse.

They are complaining about the Price. Not performance because i think they dont even have delivered any 416s to the Bundeswehr or the KSK.
Only GSG9 apparently has some because the 416 already had the denomination G38.
I am not sure about this newsI tend to make fun of dumb posters in the TFB comments alot, It's kind of just my thing.
The NewMan joke is that he's a massive H&K fanboy who never makes any actual sense at all and cries all the time the second it's implied an H&K gun isn't absolutely perfect and the best thing ever or "insert non H&K design here, mainly non H&K made AR-15s) could possibly be as good or even good at all.

It was the 416 that won? No wonder they are complaining.
But NewMan told me that the HK416 is the bestest rifle ever!, nevermind he also said the AR-15 is just am obsolete bad platform, sticking an SSP on it and stamping H&K on the side magically makes it the pinnacle of innovation and superb engineering!
-
Honestly I'm not even sure why they're bothering to have a competition, no matter how good any of the other finalists are, They'll just go back to H&K like an abused housewife after everything that's happened anyway because of how corrupt and deeply entrenched into the German MoD they are.
Quote me on this when it happens.
