  1. Oh, World War I. Yes, I buy that. I thought you meant the Red Army. The Imperial Russian Army in WWI was chronically short on weapons, hence the orders to the US, etc.
  2. If you're referring to the "some dudes get rifles and some dudes get ammo" thing, I have never seen a scrap of evidence for that.
  3. There's another angle. If H&K stops making the G36, then support for it might evaporate.
  4. The way you have written that, it sounds like the skull would have been two meters long. All the sudden I was very, very excited, and then very, very disappointed.
  5. This thread is for the discussion of unidentified flying objects, and hypotheses about their nature and origin. This is not a conspiracy theory thread. This is not a thread for indulging in wild unsupportable hypotheses. This is only to discuss and document UFOs and the likeliest explanations (or lack thereof) of their origin and nature.
  6. I seem to recall a dumblrite claiming that because conceivably blacks could have made it to Europe in the Middle Ages, therefore the black knight of Arthurian literature had to have been a negro. What's most baffling about this is that the black knight is a stock character, like The Fool, Satan, or Johnny Depp. So "he" couldn't be any one race, as "he" is an archetype in fiction, not a historical person. We can only conclude based on this compelling argument that the Green Knight of the eponymous Arthurian tale must actually be a Kerbal.
  7. Benjamin Franklin is probably smiling down from Heaven now that his favorite dong has been discovered.
  8. Case Study 1: The Moors Were Black And Ruled The World. The author clearly does not seem to realize that Iberia is not in fact a synonym for the world; the region it denotes only includes Spain and Portugal. But anyway, what about his claims that the Moors were black? Perhaps we could turn to contemporary depictions of the Moors, to settle this question: I wonder how an Afrocentrist would account for this seemingly compelling evidence. The most disturbing thing, though?
  9. I can't say whether he's ever been funny. Literally everything I've ever seen from him has been awful. Like this one: Hahahah, racism!
  10. I like the necessary conceit in that sketch that on the inside Obama is actually a raving, malt-liquor-chugging porch monkey.
  11. I've been reading up on the history of Colt's carbine models, and it's the same thing there. They shoved just about anything out of the factory, and then the end-user would modify it to defy all categorization.
  12. 30 years ago, the Coca-Cola company made their fateful announcement of the switch to their New Coke flavor. Why did this happen, and why was it such a failure? Vox.com has a good article summarizing the details.
  13. Strategic Air Command (dot com) shows us: I once did some contracting work assisting with a rocket test fire in an Atlas silo. IIRC, they are smaller than the later Titan silos.
  14. I've heard the "ran out of ammunition" claim before. Dunno that I buy it; IIRC it shoots bog standard 5.45 and 32 gauge. ED: The shotshells may actually be proprietary.
  15. He announced it on March 27. That date is suspiciously close to April 1.
  16. Also, holy crap Courtney from Inside The Air Force does not seem to understand what a fuel tank is.
  17. Big Fucking Deal: The new methalox engines are derived from the RD-180, and a pair of them have 20% more thrust. HOOOOOOBOYEEE.
  18. Doesn't really look like that to me. If the firing pin were jammed forward, the gun would slamfire; it's not. Likewise, a broken connector would cause the gun to not fire, not to fire when shaken (besides, if your gun breaks after dry firing it 2,000 times, that manufacturer isn't very good). Looks like a sear failure to me. Could be factory, could be due to modifications.
  19. VSauce produces videos that are a little too YouTubey for my tastes, but unlike the videos of some other YTers, his info seems basically good. He broaches the topic of human development in space, and the challenges associated with it: He also mention's Chris Hadfield's YT channel as being another resource for this topic. Discuss.
