United States Military Vehicle General: Guns, G*vins, and Gas Turbines
Ramlaen replied to Tied's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Trying to piece together what is going on with 30mm armed Stryker ICVD's, which is the ECP 2 upgrade cycle. The initial lot for the 2nd Cavalry SBCT will use Kongsberg's MCT-30 turret and the RFI released in early March helps clarify what the US army is looking for in a fleet wide application. -the ability to mount and fire a Javelin or TOW from under armor (preferably a Javelin) -a sight based on the IFLIR B-Kit (used by Abrams/Bradleys) -a weight of 5,000 lbs or less -optics to allow occupants to assist in situational awareness -willing to eat the sunk cost of the Kongsberg turret if an alternative's cost savings are viable -willing to use a different gun than the XM813 if the vendor pays for qualifications -up to 9 SBCT's worth of vehicles would be upgraded (760 vehicles) -

Bonus round. How many members of the Gang of Eight pushed the idea of Trump being investigated after being informed he wasn't, or how many started asking for a special prosecutor after finding out Trump wasn't under investigation?- 5,676 replies

As another curiosity, Comey said that he leaked his memo in response to Trump's May 12 tweet. So why does this May 11 NYT article have information that could only have come from Comey's memo?- 5,676 replies

Okay I understand the difference now. -35mm AHEAD has 152 3.3g sub-projectiles -35mm KETF has 407 1.24g sub-projectiles -30mm KETF has 152 1.24g sub-projectiles

I thought KETF was the round and AHEAD was the airburst fuze system? http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2004/guns/wed/buckley.ppt http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a393758.pdf http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2009/gunmissile/7923paulissen.pdf http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2012/armaments/Thursday13673Voorde.pdf http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2014/armaments/Wed16503Kerk.pdf

This months issue of DTR has an article about BAE's choice to offer a 35mm gun in Australia's LAND 400 competition. -4km effective max range vs 3km with a 30mm -the APFSDS-T has 135mm RHA penetration at 1km -Rheinmetall's 35mm KETF round (Kinetic Energy Timed Fuze) has 407 tungsten sub-projectiles, the 30mm version has 152 -Danish(?) CV9035 crews in Afghanistan apparently have come to prefer 100% KETF loadouts There is also some debate over range vs armor for survivability and 35mm vs 30mm stored kills.

Kind of displeased with how little attention this is getting in the states, I mean it's not like the Philippines was part of the US a half century ago or anything.
