  1. “We know that fishers are very opportunistic,” he says. “They are just a ball of fury.”
  2. Trump: Deploy the smokescreen! Media: WHAT SMOKESCREEN DO YOU MEAN YOU RACIST, RAPIST, RUSSIA-PUPPET?! YOU MEAN THE SMOKESCREEN YOU MADE WHEN YOU BURNED THE CONSTITUTION?! Trump: Thanks, that will do.
  3. Judges, @Zyklon @Jeeps_Guns_Tanks @LoooSeR , What do you say to a 48 hour extension? I am not asking for the sake of my design, which is silly: But because it seems like @ApplesauceBandit, @A. T. Mahan and maybe @Lord_James could use the time of the weekend to polish up their submissions.
  4. I was with @Sgt.Squarehead on this one. I'm pretty damn surprised.
  5. Apparently the Germans did consider this a problem. The Leopard 1 has rubber cladding on the inner side of the track links. Leo 2 does not.
  6. I personally theorize that Trump lured Lindsey Graham into his office on some pretext. Suddenly, three of Trump's old WWE wrestler buddies sprang out and locked the door. Then they put Graham into a sleeper hold and suplexed him into the floor. Then, for good measure, they hit him with folding chairs for a while. Then two held him down on the ground while one of them yelled in his face. "DO YOU FEEL WEAK?! ARE YOU ANGRY YET?! AM I GOING TO HAVE TO HIT YOU SOME MORE SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF THE PAIN?!" And Lindsey Graham cried and maybe wet himself a bit. The yelling wrestler continued. "YOU ARE ESTRANGED FROM YOUR PRIMAL NATURE?! WHERE IS YOUR FORCEFUL WILL?! WILL YOU MERELY ACCEPT THE COLD HAND OF OBLIVION?!" The wrestler started slapping the senator and shaking him. "YOU WOULDN'T LIFT A FINGER IF I KILLED YOU RIGHT NOW BECAUSE IN YOUR GUTS YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD?! WHY DIE A THOUSAND TIMES IF YOU CAN'T EVEN LIVE ONCE?! WHY DO YOU TORMENT YOURSELF THIS WAY?!" By this point the senator could only make muffled choking sounds. "WELL GUESS WHAT LITTLE BUDDY?! IT'S TIME TO FIGHT?! I'M GOING TO MAKE A REAL BERSERKER OUT OF YOU?!" The wrestler pulled out a syringe and a cotton pad swabbed in rubbing alcohol. "THIS IS A SALINE SOLUTION OF COCAINE AND STEROIDS?! WE'RE GOING TO REPEAT THIS LITTLE PROCEDURE UNTIL YOU ARE MAD ENOUGH AND BAD ENOUGH TO UNLEASH YOUR FIGHTING SPUNK ON THE UNSUSPECTING MASSES?! DO YOU GET ME?!" Trump just sat silently for this entire episode, smirking above steepled fingers.
  7. Interesting. I'm sure T-X sure has been an exciting ride, with a wide field of competitors and Northrop dropping out only a few months after they showed off their fancy new design. I spoke to a fighter pilot who opined that it didn't really matter who won T-X so much as getting T-Xs ASAP to replace the old T-38s.
  8. It's so they can bring in confetti for the celebrations of the deconfliction zones. Nothing to see here.
  9. The bigger scandal is that people still think polygraphs mean anything. Might as well see if her astrological symbol is one that usually tells the truth.
  10. New genus of elephant bird named.
  11. I am seriously considering the possibility that he is a deep-cover Trump agent.
  12. Not really. The molten plastic is being shot into the mold, and since we're talking thermoplastics, the mold is what is removing the heat from the plastic via conduction. There are cooling lines running through the mold to remove this heat, but the more complex the mold geometry, the harder it is for the cooling lines to remove the heat evenly.
  13. Interesting. I didn't realize that the large 2 strokes were that different. Why do 2 strokes have larger injectors?
  14. You could fuse multiple pieces of plastic together, and in fact this is done for the Steyr AUG stock. But I'm not sure how strong two pieces of plastic welded together are at the seam. Polymer molecules are these long, noodly things comprised of a bunch of monomers linked end to end to end. Prior to injection molding, the plastic gets churned up in a barrel with a helical screw. Imagine a big bowl of spaghetti that gets stirred up and then left out to cool and then dry out. I'm not sure how well plastic welding techniques stir the polymer molecules from the two parts together. That might mean you end up with something like two bowls of spaghetti, and one was poured on top of the other, and then left out to cool and then dry out.
  15. There are plastic handguards, they are almost all injection molded. Injection molding has potentially amazing cycle times. We're talking less than a minute per part in a process that can be run nearly continuously. 3D printed plastic parts are weaker than injection molded ones, even if they're made from the same plastic. 3D printing is also a lot slower. It's really not cost-competitive for mass-manufacture.
  16. That handguard is rather long. It could be made of injection-molded plastic, but injection molding something that long while still holding good dimensional tolerances is challenging. The mold halves have to close exactly on the part. Those mold halves would be something on the order of 300mm long. At that length, slight differences in temperature between the mold halves are enough to cause distortion and misalignment due to differential thermal expansion. I think there are plastics that could be rigid enough and stable enough to be used in a handguard. PEEK, for example, has excellent mechanical properties and a melting point that's 100 degrees or so higher than nylon 6. A polysulfone might work, as might PPS. But these are fairly expensive plastics that have additional challenges in processing that would slow down production.
  17. Every day the Republicans allow the Democrats to drag out the Kavanaugh hearings... the Democrats look worse. I'm mystified at this point. Before, I had thought that the Republicans were simply allowing their natural cowardice to cause problems again with what should have been a straightforward case of slamming through the nomination. The straightforward solution would be for Trump to set up blocking detachments to execute Republicans who could not do their duty, and send all their family and friends to gulags. But now... it's as though Trump foresaw all of this, and incorporated the Republicans' cowardice into his master plan.
  18. Alzoc, didn't you mention at some point that Le Pen and/or her allies had some longstanding issues with corruption?
  19. Cheaper, wider FOV and less distortion are the advantages I've heard. Making a really optically excellent periscope is a non-trivial problem.
