  1. Not sure, but even HK51Ks make a muzzle flash that would make even the most seasoned shooter behold the splendor of the mighty one:

Hell, my little HK53 without the flash hider throws a healthy flame:

The 4 prong hiders are fucking awesome though. Indoor footage of same gun:

  2. It is very slow (in the zone where it is too slow and too clunky to hold very well on target, but not grease gun slow... hard to explain).

The stock and grip have never bothered me, but the fuck huge magazines make any kind of prone or shooting from a rest impossible. I know you normally wouldn't do this with an SMG, but I'm still going to bitch about it.

Also on the plus side, they cost half as much as an MP5.

  3. So Alex, what makes the UMP 45 so bad?  Lack of recoil mitigation?

Horrendous recoil impulse, crude sights, low capacity (step back from the damn Thompson), awful trigger, mags that have no bevel or shape to indicate which way goes forward, dumb sight adjustment procedure, horrible on full auto.

As a positive though, you can change calibers by tapping out one pin.

  4. As a member of the late TCCA, I can say unabashedly that they need to lighten the fuck up.

I am willing to bet that I shot more .45 ACP ball through a M1928A1 in one day of a weekend of shooting than they ever have in their entire lives.

That being said, in WW2 if I HAD to be toting a SMG, I know I could do far, far worse than a 28A1(Having fired most of them, as well).

Know of a guy named Nick Tilotta?

  5. Hahah, looks like the Thompson fans are mega butthurt about my weight omnibus because I showed the M1 was heavy.

What did they expect? It is a giant milled block of steel, with a smaller reciprocating block of milled steel, with a barrel and huge chunks of walnut screwed on.

Don't get me wrong, I love Thompsons, but I also love driving around Ford Model Ts. I would not take a Thompson hunting, and I would not drive the Model T to work.

  6. Primary extraction is where the initial stage of the bolt's extraction of the spent case is done with a mechanical advantage. Some people will say that the very act of rotating the bolt during unlocking serves the same purprose; to "unstick" the case from the chamber walls by spinning it around. They are obviously full of shit, the extractor will just slide around in the groove if the case is meaningfully stuck as anyone with eyes can see.

In a number of bolt action rifles primary extraction is accomplished by having a diagonal portion of the bolt's path after it unlocks. This acts as a cam to lever the bolt rearwards as the shooter lifts the bolt handle.

Would the Mauser's bolt handle acting against the diagonal cut of the receiver bridge be its source of primary extraction? That has always been my understanding.

  7. Does anybody have a textbook definition of positive extraction? Viewers constantly ask me what the fuck I'm talking about when I mention it and I would like to make a video explaining what it is.

It is also discouraging that I was at the Dallas Safari Club show and a Blaser rep stared blankly at me and asked what I meant when I commented on it.
