  1. Finally. It was hard to track one down that was both nice and in a caliber that is readily available (7mm).
  2. The HK21 and PKM (each without their bipods) would be interesting to weigh. Or course in typical HK fashion they went with solid bar-stock bipod legs (well, not really, but look at the damn thing).
  3. Larry Vickers on the Mk48: "It was built WAY too light duty for 7.62 NATO If you ever saw the bolt carrier group for the Mk48, which is almost identical in size and dimensions to a 5.56mm BCG such as used in an M249 or Mk46 ( no lie )- except with a 7.62 breech face - you would never ask any of these questions again 100,000 rds on the receiver ? Maybe ( although I doubt it ) but when everything else wears out in less than a fraction of that round count what's the point Destined to be a footnote in belted history"
  4. Thanks Nate. That is high praise coming from you. But the run and gun series is by far my favorite TFBTV segment to do. The movement and shifts in position make them a little more challenging than they appear (especially shots while moving laterally). One of my goals is to show that early full-caliber semi-automatic rifles provided a great edge, but not some kind of ridiculous-ultimate-might-as-well-give-up advantage. We have the M1 Garand R&G filmed, and I found that the sights were that rifle's greatest asset. The self-loading aspect helped only on the last stage when I was up very close and able to quickly dump 5 rounds onto the target.
  5. As opposed to how arms development in the west has often been the result of a single man a la John Garand or Browning?
  6. Not sure that the PKM is the best example. It was designed by a team of talented people (with Kalashnikov attached of course). Also when I took one apart maybe 2 years ago, to me it seemed like a giant AK turned upside down modified for belt feed.
  7. Is there any good reason you don't submit articles from time to time to TFB? You are clearly passionate and competent enough to contribute good material.
  8. First one looks like an old 8 series. Second one looks like a dust buster.
  9. I'm surprised some dude is still willingly driving around a Mustang II. I probably have not seen one on the road in at least 2 or 3 years.
  10. In regard to our equipment do you mean the individual soldier's kit or a broader more logistical scope?
  11. Soon I will be able to make another tremendous contribution to this thread.
  12. I would be worried about the combustion flaring the jacket out and having it hug the rifling pretty deeply. I can bend it easily with my fingers.
  13. Nate can you give me a rundown on this? I pulled three 7.92x33 bullets. One PPU, one FNM, and one Grafs. Why would the PPU and FNM have a hollow cavity in the rear? Is this uncommon? Wouldn't it effect accuracy? Did the original ammo have the cavity?
  14. It taught us that if we fight people we can get a bunch of land and islands and shit. Also we learned that gate loading rifles suck balls.
  15. Also it is fascinating how ludicrously under equipped the USA was before and during WWI. I mean, sure we gave the Entente a bunch of supplies and whatnot but I have always felt our military presence is very overblown. Of course you always hear Belleau Wood, Belleau Wood!
  16. This is a great example of a video I clicked on to play in the background while I was doing something else because I assumed it would be pretty boring and bland. I was very wrong and found myself glued to my computer watching it.
  17. So last time at Rock Island the machine guns went for a surprisingly little amount of money. I am not sure why, but I put in a "fuck it, this is a low bid and I probably won't win it" bid on this:
