  1. When all those guns were "found" in Syria, the ammuntion mysteriously became available in pretty massive quantities that I had not seen in 5 years of looking. Prvi used to make a little run once a year that would sell out asap, but now it is in stock everywhere pretty much all the time.
  2. I suppose my conclusion was strengthened by the factors I listed above, and reinforced by the great sturmgewehr opinion battle of 2015. I have never seen a group of men get so twisted up about such a trivial subject. Or maybe my passion for such things is subsiding a bit and my inclination towards arguing on the web has diminished.
  3. "You've called me 'the most reflexively anti-German person' you'd ever met, previously." Have I? I have certainly accused you of bias, but that's a hell of a spit ball right there.
  4. And then there is post #34179 of this thread where anti-German bias was explained to me by Brick Fight this way: "A little late, but also keep in mind that a lot of us met on a game forum where users with avatars of literal Nazis could call our Russian friends here subhuman garbage for even minor critique of German military equipment and practice. They'd get off free while se would get temp-bans for saying "nazis were bad" or something. We tend to take the piss on German stuff mostly because of the mythic nature surrounding it, and there's lots of exaggeration when we do jab. I'm sure at least a few users here happily own something with Walther, H&K, Mauser, etc. written on the side, but god knows I don't want to give any weirdo nationalists any sort of validation." So it is easy to see why one might draw such conclusions.
  5. Bias against German people? No, not at all. I have never gotten this vibe from you in the slightest regarding any nationality. Against Germany the nation? Surely not (of course we have never really discussed the intricacies of modern German politics... Man that would be boring). That said when it comes to German military equipment, the totality of this board seems inclined towards unusually harsh criticism. Hell, from what I understand, this board was founded because you guys were upset about the heavy German bias on another, somewhat similar board. It would be logical to assume that some of your frustrations were carried over. Just today in our conversation you were calling a gentleman on TFB a "wehraboo" for making an observation about your comparison between the MP7 and the SCAMP. While I side with you, the man's statement gave me no indication that he was any kind of "wehraboo" (a term that seems to have had its original, humorous meaning corrupted to mean "likes anything German" from where I am sitting).
  6. Well, yeah. I'm 1.93 meters tall and thats a huge bitch. The MP7 is a deceptively large gun as well: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2012/09/11/hk-mp7-smaller-than-an-uzi-but-not-small/
  7. I would bet that Larry Vicekrs makes a play on that gun. Allegedly he really likes the type 81 (he has one in 7.62x39).
  8. Paging Mr. Khand-E, Mr. Khand-E to the front please: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=525495148 This may be the only 5.56 type 81 in the world. I know they were imported for approximately 1 month before the 1989 EO banning them (and know of only 4 total in the USA in civilian hands).
  9. I have always seen the Garand ping myth as something that would have come up organically. Looking at it from a practical standpoint, I could see that if I was issued a rifle that made a really audible noise when I was empty it would be a little unnerving. Yes, you fight with a unit, but there is that "what if" scenario in the back of your head. Of course the small "what could happen" would then be mentioned often and make its way into colloquial firearm tales. With the huge amount of people who have fought with M1s, I would find it unlikely that the ping has not fucked over at least one dude. Stranger things happened (see: shooting down an aircraft with a 1911). It has become one of those things that taints a firearm despite the incredible service record or other merits (like glocks exploding, M16 Vietnam jam machine, Beretta 92 slide ejection, etc.).
  10. Set the world on fire and discuss the relative insignificance of small arms and light weapons since WWI (where I believe less than 10% of French casualties were from small arms). I love how Jim Bob logic = "The Mauser sux, it lost two wars".
  11. I have only seen this on 9mm guns. Straight blowback seems to rattle M16 pattern rifles pretty good.
  12. I have had to "cure" three M16s of bolt bounce. Factory setups are fine and run right, but when whoever gets ahold of a transferable MG and decides he needs a 7" barrel, to mess with internals, or add a piston setup I have seen hammer follow like crazy on the bolt's rebound (which usually results in about three rounds of full auto, then a chambered round with the hammer tripped). Veteran gunsmiths I talked to said "Colt spent millions of dollars figuring out how much a buffer should weigh, and Jim Bob didn't". Thus, the solution was essentially to buy a case or two of ammo, 6 or 7 buffers, and find out which one worked best with the combo.
  13. Interesting choice really. You seldom see photos of them that weren't either taken in Korea or on the roof of a gas station in LA.
  14. Everywhere. I am stuck in the middle and even had to get Ian on the phone to put everyone's mind at ease and prevent any sort of bad blood or burned bridge.
  15. Not directly, but day after day of sturm subject matter is getting old. But damn if you aren't one passionate dude.
  16. I think that: 1. I am in no way qualified to answer that. 2. This whole "the sturm sux", "Nuh uh", "Yeah huh", Needs to fucking die.
  17. The guy was in his mid to late 80s so I reckon he was unwillingly conscripted. Last thing you want is poorly trained conscripts using full auto, ever, at all (especially when resupply aint gunna happen).
  18. My sturm was picked up off of a dead kraut on the Western Front according to the widow of the old dude who sold it. I also was at our local high end gun store one day (that always has a sturm or two) and an older guy and his ancient father came in. The father pointed to the sturm, muttered something, and his son said "hey, my dad says he was issued one of those". The store froze and my ears perked up to hear what was going on. The old man spoke very bad English but they gave him the rifle to hold and he knew the controls by heart and his son was translating things like how many magazines he was issued, where he kept them on his person, and that they were ordered to never use full auto. If I recall correctly his son said he was 17 when he fought. It was eerie to see, but it was the only time I have ever seen a German WWII vet talk about their experience in person.
