  1. They made tons of 5.56 AK variants (type 84 rifles) for export to the civilian market in the US. Apparently only 3 type 81s in 5.56 are confirmed to exist.
  2. The Chinese can be a stubborn bunch. Doing business with them is an absolute nightmare, and they have an exceptional amount of national pride. The Sino-Soviet split is certainly responsible for a lot of their unusual military decisions.
  3. Normal Type 81s fire 7.62x39. TFB's own Tim Yan wrote an article about them for Guns and Ammo a while back: http://www.redstararms.com/type81.pdf
  4. Lol. I have a PVS-7 with a horrendous blem and a gen 3 scope that is.... old: But still Gen 3! Kind of neat as it came from the era when HK ruled the civilian tactical marketplace (and was offered with the STANAG mount as pictured):
  5. MMmmmm... Chinese Type 81 derivative, the "EM356". Basically these were at the 1989 SHOT Show but were banned by the Bush EO the next month. Apparently three came in as importer samples, all with different stock configs. From a source of mine: "I spoke to someone who owns a couple other of these (the fixed stock and underfloor examples. Apparently none of them came into the US with magazines, and it appears the magazines were never even fully developed for them. Yours and the other two are the only ones made it would seem." So after spending a lot of time with a dremel, a managed to get a Beryl magazine to fit. I tried: Valmet M76 Galil AK74 Norinco 5.56 Beryl SAR 3/Waffle And all of them were not even close to fitting in factory config.
  6. I have one. I like the new stuff to go to James so that I can focus on older guns that people seem to like seeing. James is very good at reviewing new guns that I personally would find quite dull. On the other hand, throw a Steyr 95 in his hands and he would probably not be too enthusiastic.
  7. So..... the new Galil Ace pistol definitely has third pin and hole. Remember when Norinco did this with MAK 90s? Yeah, the ATF made them recall all of them. So IWI fucked up really bad, especially with precedent clearly laid out 20 years ago.
  8. Those are polymer MKE mags: http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/component/virtuemart/shipping-rifles/zenith-z-43-p-5-56x45mm-nato-pistol-detail.html?Itemid=0
  9. Also, I find the small amount of turbo Buicks in this thread disturbing:
  10. In the USA, we did something similar (well, twice actually)... but we actually made it: The Bricklin SV-1: They were designed in 1971 and built in 72-76. The name stands for "Safety Vehicle 1" and it had a roll cage, safety bumpers, etc. The cars had 351Ws in them so they could have been cool, but they are smog era cars. The concept of the safety car was not really new though. Preston Tucker (read about this guy! They even made a movie about him.) wanted his cars to be safe as hell and designed a pretty bitchin car: He wanted safety to be central to the design, and installed seat belts (which was weird at the time), an additional headlight that lit up when the wheel was turned more than a few degrees, and it had safety glass and a windshield that would pop out if compromised. A few years ago at the Barrett Jackson I saw that car above roll across the auction block. Beautiful vehicle:
  11. If you ever see a car with an intercooler like that one that just so happens to be missing a headlight, do not bet against it in a drag race.

  13. When I was a kid if you didn't want a Grand National, you were wrong. Of course the same is true today.
  14. Every time I call a rifle that meets the definition of an "assault rifle" as defined by the United States military a fucking assault rifle, I get angrily corrected by NRA Billy Bob who tells me that assault rifle is some made up demon term used by all them anti gun liburrels using it to take our guns away.
  15. Yes. The video revenue from the run and gun and the destruction test should be enough for a replacement gun.
