Is there any good reason you don't submit articles from time to time to TFB? You are clearly passionate and competent enough to contribute good material.

I'm surprised some dude is still willingly driving around a Mustang II. I probably have not seen one on the road in at least 2 or 3 years.

The most interesting car ever made. The death rattle of the steam powered automobile. Direct drive, no boiler ('Merican steampunk magic), 4 cylinder compound engine with high and low power pistons, 6 crystals used to regulate burners, one spark plug.

So last time at Rock Island the machine guns went for a surprisingly little amount of money. I am not sure why, but I put in a "fuck it, this is a low bid and I probably won't win it" bid on this:

When all those guns were "found" in Syria, the ammuntion mysteriously became available in pretty massive quantities that I had not seen in 5 years of looking. Prvi used to make a little run once a year that would sell out asap, but now it is in stock everywhere pretty much all the time.

This may be the only 5.56 type 81 in the world.
I know they were imported for approximately 1 month before the 1989 EO banning them (and know of only 4 total in the USA in civilian hands).

I have always seen the Garand ping myth as something that would have come up organically. Looking at it from a practical standpoint, I could see that if I was issued a rifle that made a really audible noise when I was empty it would be a little unnerving. Yes, you fight with a unit, but there is that "what if" scenario in the back of your head.
Of course the small "what could happen" would then be mentioned often and make its way into colloquial firearm tales.

With the huge amount of people who have fought with M1s, I would find it unlikely that the ping has not fucked over at least one dude. Stranger things happened (see: shooting down an aircraft with a 1911). It has become one of those things that taints a firearm despite the incredible service record or other merits (like glocks exploding, M16 Vietnam jam machine, Beretta 92 slide ejection, etc.).

Interesting choice really. You seldom see photos of them that weren't either taken in Korea or on the roof of a gas station in LA.

Everywhere. I am stuck in the middle and even had to get Ian on the phone to put everyone's mind at ease and prevent any sort of bad blood or burned bridge.

My sturm was picked up off of a dead kraut on the Western Front according to the widow of the old dude who sold it.

I also was at our local high end gun store one day (that always has a sturm or two) and an older guy and his ancient father came in. The father pointed to the sturm, muttered something, and his son said "hey, my dad says he was issued one of those". The store froze and my ears perked up to hear what was going on. The old man spoke very bad English but they gave him the rifle to hold and he knew the controls by heart and his son was translating things like how many magazines he was issued, where he kept them on his person, and that they were ordered to never use full auto. If I recall correctly his son said he was 17 when he fought.

It was eerie to see, but it was the only time I have ever seen a German WWII vet talk about their experience in person.

The guy was in his mid to late 80s so I reckon he was unwillingly conscripted. Last thing you want is poorly trained conscripts using full auto, ever, at all (especially when resupply aint gunna happen).

Lol. Youtube commenters do that all the time. Along with "can you do this next week with an HK G11/OICW/Steyr ACR?".
