I've pulled stumps with trucks before.

    *Shrug*

Edit: Now the dude trying to pull an old growth stump with a Landcruiser was special...

Edit Edit: Also fuckers are standing too close to the tow chains/straps...

They are ok, cause Mythbusters said people being hurt by flying broken wire ropes is a myth!

Looks like I'm replacing the half shaft, pads, and rotors on my truck as well. Picking it up tomorrow. That kicked the cost up a bit.

    That sucks.

I once took an 84 Blazer in for an alignment, it wandered and the steering was sloppy, steering box was not broke out of the frame and the rage joint was good. The guy doing the work was a pal I grew up with and did stuff at cost, so I knew I wasn't getting ripped off.  He calls, and said, it would align, to much wheel play, maybe the wheel bearings were shot. I say whatever, just let me know, he calls me back and says, it needs wheel bearings, and HUBS, because the wheel bearings had not been serviced, and the races were loose in the hubs. The guy I bought it from thought maintenance meant fixing it when it broke... Anyway,  I helped put it all back together when I got off work, and luckily the auto locking hubs were in like new condition, lol and went right in and I never once had a problem with them.

I traded an AR-15 for this thing, so it was still a good deal, but it had other lack of maintenance woes I had to fix, and ultimately lead to its demise.   The funniest thing about the truck is the previous owner was like 6,3 350, and had bent the seat frame back.  I got in the back seat and bent it back into place, but the frame was weakened and over time it would slowly tilt back. So I cut a 2 by 4 to fit and wedged it into the back seat.  I had class back then.

I do a lot of work on my own, but I will pay someone else to mess with ball joints. Especially ones that are old as shit and seen over 20 winters without getting touched. I don't have a torch or a press, but I do have a shop that will do whatever I want as long as I provide the parts.

Yeah, that kind of work is no fun in the winter for sure, paying other people to shitty stuff is how the world works!

  4. Opioids are killing far more Americans than guns used in crime.

I mean sure, we should be concerned about the Democrat voter base robbing, raping, and murdering people while their politicians try and take law abiding citizens right to defend themselves from said Democrat Voter vase away,  but nothing being proposed by either side will have any real effect gun crime.

We should all take a step back, and take a real look at our heart health, and get some fucking exercise, because heart disease, not guns is what's going to kill us.

A VERY comprehensive survey by the Dept of Justice which includes 287,400 prisoners who used a firearm in a crime and how they obtained it. Includes graphs and other info

    https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/suficspi16.pdf

    Highlights

An estimated 287,400 prisoners had possessed a firearm during their offense. Among these, more than half (56%) had either stolen it (6%), found it at the scene of the crime (7%), or obtained it off the street or from the underground market (43%). Most of the remainder (25%) had obtained it from a family member or friend, or as a gift. Seven percent had purchased it under their own name from a licensed firearm dealer.

    ...

Among prisoners who possessed a firearm during their offense, 0.8% obtained it at a gun show.

State prisoners with no military service were more likely to possess a gun during their offense (21%) than prisoners who had served in the military (16%).

Almost 3 in 10 (29%) black prisoners serving a sentence in state prison in 2016 possessed a firearm during their crime. White (12%) and Hispanic (21%) state prisoners were less likely to have possessed a firearm during their crime. Similarly, white (17%) and Hispanic (13%) federal prisoners serving a sentence in 2016 were less likely to have possessed a firearm during the crime than black (29%) federal prisoners.

So basically gun crime is a non-issue, but the Press hates guns, and will never report honestly on the issue...

Are those real photos of Herr Speer in a Sherman tank?

Probably, this is a really famous 1st AD tank the Germans captured in Tunis, if you look close you can see markings were they put the armor thickness numbers on the hull in various spots.

Looks like the collector ring box, but upside-down.

Yeah. Interesting, I think that's the cutaway tank in one of the museums, are they restoring it or something, it seems like the older pics I've seen everything is in better shape.

When I was at the Russell Military Museum in Zion Illinois a couple years ago, I was talking to the museum owner about Sherman tanks.  He said it's really easy to stall out an Isherman with the Cummins diesel when turning.  He owns one, so I expect he is talking from experience.  His rationale was that it had something to do with how the lower RPM diesel interacted with the transmission.  Not sure I understood it to be honest.

I've heard similar things from other sources, basically my understanding is the Cummins, (thanks for the page corrections, I fix them ASAP) doesn't make power at a low enough RPM so at low speed, the engine is struggling the extra load from the steering brakes stalls it out.  Maybe Meplat knows more, I could have it wrong too.

Are there any newer tank engines that could be easily installed in a Sherman?

One advantage the Sherman has is that tranny, dif, and final drivers are not connected directly to the motor, so anything that fits and makes around 500 HP would work, but for it to work well, it needs to be making full torque and HP at no more than 2500 RPM and the lower the RPM the better.

I'm stuck working, but Merry Christmas to all.   May your day be non-stressful and your family be at least entertainingly crazy.  I hope we can all overindulge in good food of your choice.  (Roast Striploin on the menu for us.)

    Merry Christmas Gentlemen!
