Ukrainian armor - Oplot-M, T-64M Bulat and other.
EnsignExpendable replied to LoooSeR's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Details of the APC based on the T-64 chassis have surfaced. 34.5 tons, 700 hp engine, 30 mm gun, crew of 3, can carry 15 soldiers, 40 mm of rear armour, 82 mm of side armour + 20 mm screen + reactive armour. Front armour is 350+40 mm, allegedly resistant to 90 mm AP (who still uses that?) -

I just discovered a website that ships from Toronto instead of Buttfuck, Alberta or Payoutttheassforshipping, USA, so my wallet is groaning and my backlog is growing.

Documents for the Documents God
EnsignExpendable replied to EnsignExpendable's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Yup, that's where I get some good stuff. The problem is that there are so many documents, and search engines for those things tend to be woefully inadequate. -
Nice tanks! Odds are you can buy aftermarket parts and rebuild them better than ever.

Forczyk is more of a Linus Torvalds, Zaloga is The Woz. Belton Cooper is RMS. Edit: should we keep a list of notable interviews, much like the documents list? This one, the Hitlerjugend one from HAV, and Carius' "I didn't destroy over 100 tanks" come to mind.

Engineering analysis of the Russian T-34-85 tank -
I just came across this video, where the British Independent tank is moved for an exhibition. Man, that suspension is in terrible shape. Track links have seized up, the springs have seized up, and that horrible groaning sound when it moves is indicative of some bigger problems. Yuri Pasholok & Co. complained that the T-35 that moved under its own power was in horrible condition, but this thing is just a whole new ball game.

EnsignExpendable replied to T___A's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Not all that different from Barabash's designs, with a correction for a heavier shell, of course. I didn't expect the magazine to be that difficult to load, but it's not as cumbersome as, say, refilling the ready rack on a Tiger or Stuart. Shame the mechanical rammer is missing.- 5,220 replies

XM1 Engine Troubles -
Volketten on the WoT forums posted some XM-1 trials results. Compare this to what the Americans claimed the XM1 will do: Seems like the XM1 really didn't earn that checkmark-plus in mobility or protection.

Setting The Record Straight On The Sherman
EnsignExpendable replied to Sturgeon's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Captured German diary reads “Tommy is using an American tank (M4 medium) which has incredible armor and very good armament. (Paraphrase of cable from Cairo to Milid, No 1131, June 15 1942) As for the Panther, I'm afraid the Sherman isn't mentioned in Heydekamp's interrogation at all. Seems like it was all T-34. I guess you could argue the overhanging gun bit was present in the Sherman too, but neither of the other two features liked by the Germans were.
