Sturgeon
First, there was the Antares rocket explosion, and now SpaceShipTwo has crashed, killing 1 pilot. It seems the craft exploded after lighting the engine. Test flights are always a risk. Growing up as the brat of a test pilot, this has always been on my mind during these sorts of things.Post more details here as they become available. Sturgeon
I was just on ATK's Facebook page for work, and oh man:
Donward
One of my buddies is literally a rocket scientist who works at one of the local aerospace subcontractors that build a lot of the propulsion systems used by NASA and the military. I can't wait to pick his brain about these events. Sturgeon
LostCosmonaut
An interesting article about Spaceship Two, originally published on Thursday.
xthetenth
Interestingly it seems that SpaceShipTwo was lost due to a problem with the feather mechanism coming unlocked while the engine was on, not the engine itself. Considering the engine problems they'd been having, it's probably significantly less bad than the experimental fuel causing the problem.
