  1. Looks like a base model, (no tach/"sports" cluster, four knocker in '76) but it has AC. Barring any tinworm, and/or issues caused by GM's hit and miss QC of the day, that should be a decent base for a restoration. I've dealt with a few dozen Vegas, and when you get a good one, it's REALLY good. But a lot of them were just trash from day one. That this one is in decent shape and seemingly unmolested (mechanically) is pretty rare.
  2. I'm reasonably sure Rommel would have given a testicle to have M24's at the time.
  3. HMMWV's are turning up, why not first gen M1 APU's? (or the ones from late M60's?). If you check the auctions there is all kinds of fairly recent material turning up, so it makes me wonder where the "old" ones are going.
  4. Always makes me wonder where the "surplus" APU's end up. I've yet to see them turning up at auction (unlike the scads of MEP series gensets).
  5. b-b-but doing your job is HAAARD...
  6. Some of those look like they were inspired by a pachinko machine.
  7. It was a very promising design, sad it's kind of forgotten now. The stock was interesting in that you could loosen the single stock screw, pull out the rubber buttpad, then rotate it a quarter-turn (90 degrees) and stow a ziploc baggie with all kinds of spares in there. It was not foam-filled like the AR-15. The magazines are (were) a stumbling point for some people, but it was absurdly easy to convert an AR-15 mag to work, if one had any semblance of mechanical aptitude.
  8. Nothing is more telling than looking at a tablefull of AR18's and AR180's, and noting the differences. Buy an (original) Armalite for collecting, a Howa for shooting, and a Sterling for parts..
  9. I'd be tempted tom instead, point out the rate reducer, and all it's associated issues. (It was a dumb idea). The instant it went from being a "machine rifle" to a half-assed LMG, shit was going pear shaped. The USMC had something promising with the cut down ones they messed with in the 20's, whereupon it's potential was promptly ignored.
  10. The helmet design in the background is intriguing. Looks like it might limit peripheral vision though.
  11. He had "an arsenal" including those eebil 747 seeking SNIPAR RIFFLES with OPTACS. (or some bullshit). It's not hard to find similar "arsenals" where more than half the spread is airshit or pellet guns. This is how many departments and the media get their money, by feeding on the ignorance of the public.
  12. Probably turned in by a neighbor or relative "for the public safety".
  13. Much as I like the R975, the GAA was by far the better engine. The Chrysler Multibank I like just because ONLY Chrysler could get it to work.
  14. My issue is more with the predatory nature some of the makers and vendors have, that "IF YOU DONT HAVE THIS ON YOUR AR YOU ARE NOT TIER 1 OPERATORRRR" or some such nonsense. I had a fucking PVS2 on a SP-1 Colt when many of them were still in junior high, and even then I found the novelty had worn off in about...Fifteen minutes. Same reason the P-38 ejects to the left. "Because". /K/ has not had a real "scoop" since I posted my G-36 trunnion pics there, many many moons ago. (~10+ years).
  15. Looks like "Cherry" has all sots of improvised stowage on the glacis. Just judging by the location and the other stuff, it may have been for an unditching beam or small fascine. Since there is an AVRE in the mix, it may have also been used for carrying beach landing mesh. Just a guess. The "round bit" looks like a random chunk of material caught in the fuel tank scupper.
  16. If you keep it reasonable, that's a non-issue. But dear lord, there was a lot of shit (and I mean SHIT) being sold for the AR platform when I threw my hands up and left the industry, I cannot imagine what garbage is being foisted upon the unwary ,presently. I'm expecting there will (eventually) be a backlash toward the idea of the "twelve pound Carbine AR", where people go back to the basics. Brownell's seems to have had a good response toward their retro AR's, so there is hope that sanity is returning. (ETA- "oldmanshakeshandatcloud.jpg" goes here.)
  17. I own some myself, but no way in hell am I going to do the equivalent of "Shaking a Jegs catalog" over them in a misguided attempt to buy skill /accuracy. It's like the guy I dealt with who spent a couple grand on his AR build, then fucked the works by dropping a "lightweight tactical" carbine buffer in it. (it had battered to where it was binding in the tube and causing feed issues) I never did find out why he had pickatinny cheesegraters on the telestock, either.
  18. That's a shockingly clean Fiero. They can make a neat little runabout (if you don't try and turn them into a MR2 like so many of their owners have.). It's not a "car" though. You never, ever buy a Fiero as your only "car". That firechicken has been hooned, and likely reeks of semen, weed and beer-vomit.
  19. Be nice to have happen, but I'm not going to hold my breath in anticipation. I'm sure the Republican party will somehow find a way to shit all over itself and any chance of serious firearms reform.
  20. THE PROPHECY HAS BEEN FULFILLED. SOON THE GATE WILL OPEN. (HAHAHAHA! Four hundred bucks FFS. AR's are turning into the Honda Civic of firearms. ).
  21. You can mitigate (somewhat) the overgassed condition in the AR-15 by opening or relocating the gas bleed ports on the bolt carrier. Though the real "fix" is just doing it right the first time. I've sometimes wondered why some enterprising soul( in the neverending quest to separate AR owners from their money), has not come up with an "adjustable bolt carrier" with an adjustable gas port, to go along with the "adjustable gas blocks" and "adjustable gas tubes" on the market.
  22. How about he go suck-start a R975..
  23. Maybe it liked that Ford a little too much.
