At my peak I had four 1911's, all were GI "beaters". For a time, they were not overpriced. I had a 1913 SA M1911 for a long time. I very much regret selling it. I still have a '44 Colt I carry semi-frequently. Stoppages were almost always mag related. A simple fix, it involved a large hammer or a bench vise. Crush the offending mag. never had any issues with known good mags, and serviceable ammo.

Do we have a resident Russian plane guy? I've only worked on a couple Russian/ Soviet aircraft, and they had full instrumentation (Gyro, B&B, Gyrocompass+mag). So I've been drinking vodka and flying some of the Russian birds, and I noticed many just have have a rate-of-climb, whiskey compass and altimeter, but none of the "basics" I saw in even an AN-2. Was this lack of instrumentation normal, and if so, what did the pilots of the time think of LL birds that had all the bells and whistles?

The history of the sheer volumes of stupid involved in the fielding of the '16, will take a long time to wash away the still greater volumes of stupid surrounding the piece itself. ("Shits where it eats", "Made by Mattel", etc). It's not hard to find someone more than willing to tell you how fantabulous their (flavor of the week pew-pew shooter) is versus the "junky" M-16, but are unable to describe how the gas system functions.

Depended on how close you lived to a border. Michigan seemed to still be fairly "wet" throughout the prohibition era. So based on that? Anything from a hooned up zip-gun, to an Inglis BREN..(Or C1A1)

He has no concept of the impact, cost or repercussions of what he proposes, but woe be onto those who disagree.
