  1. S-300 in syria is completely useless... may be replaced by chinese HQ-9 “A number of Syrian sources report that Syria has begun negotiations with China regarding the purchase of the Chinese H-9 air defense systems (according to other sources – HQ-22) instead of the Russian S-300 system, which so far has shown zero effectiveness in repelling Israeli attacks,” the publication reported. “The source indicates the fact that at the moment the negotiations concern the gratuitous supply of Chinese air defense systems to Syria, however, at the same time, the acquisition of these anti-aircraft missile systems was not excluded. The reason for the negotiations is the impossibility of using the Russian S-300, since the latter is controlled by the Russian military, however, there are other reasons, in particular, Damascus intends to deploy Chinese HQ-9 throughout Syria, thereby completely covering the airspace above the territory of the country,” they added. Syria has yet to comment on these claims; however, if true, this could be a boost for the Syrian air defenses, as they already have the Russian-made S-300 system." https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/syria-may-replace-russias-s-300-with-chinas-hq-9-report/
  2. Also it screws up the mobility of the whole system. Most components of S-400 use MAZ heavy trucks with extreme offroad mobility (for wheeled vehicles). Some other components use BAZ trucks, with less, but still good mobility. Now you add the Kamaz, which is mostly bound to roads. Not a nice combination.
  3. Here you can see some testing, although a 6x6 version. (btw, 8x8 was originally considered for Pantsir. Using Kamaz instead of BAZ was a huge mistake!)
  4. three tracked heavy-mass platforms: T-80, T-72/90, Armata? Im not so sure. I do not see much future for armata. Maybe a very small batch for propaganda purposes, and thats it. Also, T-80BVM has a huge advantage over T-72B3: protection. In today's standards, T-72B3 counts as almost unarmored. Kontakt-5 is completely useless. True, nothing prevents Relikt installation on the 72, but as far as I know, no plans for it, so T-80BVM will have a much higher combat value. Another advantage of T-80, is that the gas turbine is much more reliable, and has longer life. T-80U&variants should be also overhauled and modernized with Relikt.
  5. US army should really consider dropping their idiotic designation systems! Look at the air force. Those guys did it right. From the first letter, you immediately know the general type of aircraft. Then model number, and a letter for variant (A,B,C..etc), and finally sometimes sub-variant, for example F-16C Block 52... Also for army M1 means a tank, a truck, a rifle, a helmet, socks, pants, everything... crazy. No such thing at air force.
  6. Well, Im currently thinking of buying one! LPG powered though to keep fuel costs low.
  7. Yes you are right, but the base chassis has extremely good offroad capability, its not an ordinary truck. Far better than the MAN, Renault or that Brutus prototype. No wonder that the Tatra is the king of truck trials. If americans really want a wheeled artillery, they should definitely put it on the HEMTT.
  8. Nothing wrong with wheeled artillery. As long the vehicle is not a normal truck. Sadly there are few examples, like Archer, G6 and Dana. Compared to ordinary truck mounted systems, they have far superior offroad mobility, the chassis is specialized to carry heavier loads, so protection can be also higher.
  9. Any upgrades planned for T-80U? The tank in its current state is horribly obsolete, but a BVM-like modernization would be easy I think.
  10. I hope SAA and SDF will reach an agreement. FSA jihadists are vicious, no better than islamic state. Kurds should realize by now that they will not have their independent country in Syria. They must cooperate with the government. Assad is not a monster, he can be talked with.
  11. According to this, SAA units already arrived, and began talks with SDF to take over thecity in order to deter turkish/jihadist attacks. https://orientalista.hu/a-sziriai-hadsereg-egysegei-megerkeztek-az-eszaki-manbedzsbe/
  12. I have a question for russian forum members: What happened to Техника и вооружение journal? I mean, even in last year, we had a chapter from Отечественные бронированные машины every 2-3 months, but now there is nothing since May... Why did they stop publishing these exciting articles?
  13. One word: agony. Seriously. Why not dump the whole project? Just a waste of money, for nothing to gain. A few barely functional tanks used for propaganda? Worth it? I think buying more T-90M with added APS would be far better and logical decision. Most of these new projects (Armata, Kurganets, Bumerang) doomed it looks like. The 2S35 is probably the only one worth saving, probably mature enough to start serial production.
  14. Just guessing, maybe because 1350hp is the max performance possible without reliability and engine life degradation?
  15. Yes, but wouldnt it come with shortened engine life, as happened with the V92 diesels? There is a point after which if you incrase performance, you pay with sharply falling reliability and life. Also, CAT engines are extremely durable and very modern, even if a bit heavy. They run thousands of hours in construction/mining equipment.
  16. Yes, it makes sense then. Do you know how thick the armor array, including the air gap?
  17. Thats the only logical explanation. Anyway, here is a video with the loader in use. This isnt a real autoloader, since it still requires two guys to load the shell and charge trays, (one loads the shell on the left side, another loads the charge on the rigth side) but their job is probably far easier, no need to lift the heavy shell, just slide it from the conveyor to the tray.
  18. BTW, why dont they use the (semi)autoloader? Much better, safer and faster than lifting those 46kg shells manually. Almost all videos featuring the Giatsint, they load the gun by hand...
  19. Not true: https://www.volvoce.com/great-britain/en-gb/smt/products/articulated-haulers/#/all But choosing the MAN sadly comes with the drawback of significantly reduced offroad mobility. Just a little rain, and those trucks are like grounded whales. The Volvo on the other hand, is fine with almost any terrain, only tracked vehicles are better.
