  1. The situation might not be that bad. I talked to some knowledgeable guys on a local forum who said that this is not the same system as the one in service with V-PVO. Software may be degraded.
  2. Well, lots of info in the original article (sorry I forgot the link yesterday) http://gurkhan.blogspot.com/2019/07/80-1.html All 3 of them are actually medics, but they received training to operate the tank.
  3. Looks like Russia is ready to trash a T-80 at tank biathlon... And with female crew. While I have nothing against the three women (who never were tankists actually), I feel pity for that poor T-80 which will more than likely to end up as spare part donor for other T-80s after the circus ends. What a waste... Using T-72s is more or less OK, those tanks are worthless anyway, but if this continues, they will end up trashing T-90Ms at the end.
  4. Wasnt the plan to return this tank to Japan? I'd love to see more japanese tanks restored. Shermans, T-34s, Panthers are boring. Japanese tanks are unique. And cute Yes, main problem is finding parts. Even harder than getting stuff for german AFVs. But this restoration shows very well that it is worth the struggle.
  5. I guess the engine is original, check the video at 19:10. It is diesel, 6 cylinder, air cooled, and quite old style looking engine. Im almost certain that this is the original Mitsubishi A6120
  6. T.95 Ha-Go, restored in Poland. Awesome! Quite nimble little beast, with great sounding engine. (driving at the end of the video)
  7. 2S34 Lotos has soft kill APS! http://gurkhan.blogspot.com/2019/06/242.html
  8. Not just the fuel. Spare parts too. Actually, it would be even worse than what the soviets did with using T-64/72/80 parallel. At least those tanks had some common parts. T-72/PT-91, Leopard-2, and Abrams have zero commonality.
  9. M1A1??? Ohh, Damian's dream would come true! But seriously. It would be a stupid decision. Poland already uses two types of tank, a third would be idiotic. We saw that somewhere before
  10. Of course it is a lie. But on the other hand, Sosna is completely immune to all imaginable kinds of jamming, fully passive so the attacked plane detects only the missile launch or the guidance laser (IF equipped with such systems, else the first sign is the explosion of the warhead). Stealth is also worthless. Also, if the operator is smart, he launches the missile only when the target is in the NEZ (no escape zone), then even if the aircraft detects the launch, it is in a massive trouble. So yes, Sosna is quite scary stuff! BTW, what I find quite funny, is that russian air defence troops get everything they want despite the not insignificant cost of modern systems, and the development of AD systems goes quite smoothly. In addition their equipment is amongst the best (if not the best!) in the world. At the same time, army struggles with everything, they didnt even get simpler stuff like BMP-2M Berezhok, and only getting hopelessly obsolete trash like T-72B3 or BMP-1AM.
  11. Well, then there is this... I dont know if its correct or not. The one in the right is definitely prototype, it stil has the old style sabot. http://soviet-ammo.ucoz.ru/index/125_3vbm11/0-91
  12. Is this the 3BM29 (Nadfil-2)? I heard its internal construction is unknown. Isnt this an 3BM26 instead?
  13. Yes but what about the 3BM29? It entered service in 1981, and used a DU core. Probably not a monoblock rod, but even if not, I think it would still have improved performance over the 3BM26. May be enough to defeat M1 and Leo-2 . Why is this round such a mystery btw?
  14. @Militarysta Interesting! Thanks! Just one more question: What do you think about the metal-polymer blocks found on T-55M/AM and T-62M? I know they were designed to defeat APDS, and surely made the tank immune to them. But what about APFSDS? Im thinking about the earlier models, like M735 and M774.
  15. @Militarysta And the 3BM22? It should penetrate around 380mm @ 2km, but would it be enough against early M1 or Leo-2A0? While I doubt it would penetrate them at 2km, but what about shorter ranges, like 1km? Also the 115mm 3BM28 with DU core?
  16. Yes, the excellent steel used in construction of these tanks was revealed by yugoslav tests too. As for T-55 turret testing, this drawing may explain the results. I made this myself long ago, so it isnt entirely accurate, but still quite obvious that when shooting without any flank angle, the LOS thickness goes up rapidly from the center of the turret. Probably the same is true for T-62, although its turret isnt so well shaped.
  17. Well, Im not sure if it is the right place to put this. A dutch guy bought an iraqi Type-69 tank (actually a pile of rust), and decided to restore it with the help of his friends. Despite not professional tank restorers, they do an amazing job, actually better than some more famous museums around the world. They took it apart completely, and restore it piece by piece. They have lots of videos, these are just some examples. Maybe we should have a thread for tank restorations (of course not only this) if there is interest? The original sad state of the tank (I think the guys saved it from the arc furnace in the last minute. It is so badly rusted) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI32WUfkqtg And now:
  18. Kontakt-5 is completely obsolete since quite a while. It had only a few years while it was an effective form of protection. In the mid 90s americans already had the M829A2 which was able to defeat it. A few years later germans introduced the DM53, which also defeated K5. Also all ATGMs with tandem warheads are effective against K5 protected targets.
  19. Here you go... The video title says Moskit, but I think it is more likely a Granit. Whole ship penetrated from front to back. This is the result of a 750kg penetrating warhead. (similar to WW2 penetrating bombs) And the warhead itself. Imagine this smashing into the ship's hull at mach 1.6... Thats enormous kinetic energy.
  20. The problem is, neither are in service. T-55AD withdrawn long ago. T-72 and 80 never received Arena serially. Oplot also doesnt have anything, barely a few are in service, and the ukrainians are struggling to even keep them in running condition. Absolutely no money for APS. And finally, T-14 is a prototype, which is still in (probably mid) development stage, and will not be completed in the foreseeable future.
  21. Despite new rammer and two loaders, this isnt impressive at all. On the level of the 2S3 Akatsia (with its single loader) at best. It is obvious that this system isnt designed for rapid rate of fire.
