Terrible news for both Syrian air force and VKS. The sultan sent some serious air defense (MIM-23 Hawk) systems to Idlib. In the new offensive south of M4 highway, it shoud be an absolute priority to destroy these SAM systems by artillery. https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/turkish-military-sends-us-made-air-defense-system-to-idlib-video/

General artillery, SPGs, MLRS and long range ATGMs thread.
heretic88 replied to LoooSeR's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Giatsint-S at exercises, with drone support. Again, they do not use the loader assist device, if it wasnt there at all... I cant comprehend why. Loading those big, heavy (46kg) shells is a pain to such height. Also something is wrong with the rammer, even if they do not use it, it should jump a bit to the side after the gun recoils to avoid the ejected charge casing striking it.- 1,911 replies

The Soviet Tank Thread: Transversely Mounted 1000hp Engines
heretic88 replied to T___A's topic in Mechanized Warfare
So much about the "poorly armored" T-55... It did well in that test I think, considering the age of the T-54/55 design. Was this the basis of the 1974 report which concluded that 60% of the turret front profile is only vulnerable out to maximum 800m?- 5,219 replies

I wonder what the sultan will do now to hold his jihadist lapdogs back... New offensive expected? https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/militants-regrouping-to-launch-big-counter-offensive-in-idlib-russia/

Ukrainian armor - Oplot-M, T-64M Bulat and other.
heretic88 replied to LoooSeR's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Ukrainian KBA-3 is also strange... While it is a copy of 2A46M, the barrel isnt chromed! Weird... And even though on the chinese gun the asymmetric recoil mechanism seems to be a big disadvantage, it still has better dispersion... I think there are lot more improvements inside. -

heretic88 replied to LoooSeR's topic in Mechanized Warfare
So basically, the VT4 is a way more advanced tank. That was to be expected. One thing is surprising though... Main gun seems like it is based on old 2A46, not the much better 2A46M... asymmetric recoil mechanism is not good for accuracy. Also no quick change barrel... This is very strange, since 2A46M is also quite old. -
Now a little bit different. KMW started assembling the refurbished Leopard-2A4s for Hungary. These will be training tanks until the new A7s arrive. According to the article below the turret was installed on the first chassis on 28th february. The plan is to deliver all 12 A4s this year. https://honvedelem.hu/fooldal-kiemelesek/megkezdodott-a-magyar-harckocsik-osszeszerelese-nemetorszagban/?fbclid=IwAR2fOdPLL4CnGWveTUgs10U9NGVUPXks-S8RTsOhMeoLXLpmr0Ab5lGp-1I

Well, not Greece, but we hungarians offered help for Serbia. Seems like nobody really cares about the situation outside of V4. Western politicians may babble about how serious this new wave of rapefugees, but they do nothing else.

The Soviet Tank Thread: Transversely Mounted 1000hp Engines
heretic88 replied to T___A's topic in Mechanized Warfare
That mud is serious... You need proper tanks for that job! Objekt-279! Btw, it would be good if such vehicles would be restored and returned to running condition instead of shitty T-34s wich are plentiful and boring as hell... Maybe a kickstarter project for restoring the Objekt-770? Anyone? Or maybe a serial produced machine, like a T-10M?- 5,219 replies

My point is that the sultan's goal is expansion.

I think turks waited for just that airstrike. They deliberately mix their troops with jihadists. With sacrificing some of their soldiers, this is their casus belli to declare war on syria, and annex northern parts of the country. No other possible explanation for such strong support for terrorism. Syria in exchange should arm the kurds.

Nice, but Im not sure how practical it is... I work with dump trucks every day, and I need to communicate with the drivers a lot where to park, where to dump, etc.

Thanks for the correction. Btw, what is the difference between the peformance of HS 820 and Rh 202?

I found these numbers for DM43: Penetration @ 1000 mtrs: 32 mm at 90 degr, 24 mm at 60 degr, 8 mm at 30degr. BMP-1 hull resisted this frontally. Source: (I dont know how reliable it is) https://www.wk2ammo.com/showthread.php?3203-20x139-shells-for-the-HS-820-(Oerlikon-KAD)-amp-Rh-202-gun

Meanwhile, the sultan sends Leopards again...

Things get interesting. According to syriancivilwarmap.com, turks want to deploy S-400 to create a no fly zone over Idlib... Bastards. Selling S-400 to them was a horrible idea!

"RPG-7" is a bad generalization. I can imagine it protects against PG-7V or VM in some circumstances, but I think it is unlikely that even that armor can do anything against even the PG-7VS, which is sill ancient, from the early '70s. Also dont forget the impact angle, which is very important. At 30 degreees for example, this armor will stop PG-7V or VM, but at 90... I dont think so. This +50mm add on is purely against EFPs.

Northern Aleppo is liberated! According to Al Masdar, jihadists fled the pocket. https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/battle-of-aleppo-city-ends-in-syrian-army-victory-after-7-years-of-fighting/ "In addition to capturing Kafr Hamra and Layramoun, the Syrian Army also took control of the Al-Zahra’a Association Quarter, which was the main battlefield in Aleppo city for most of the war. At the same time, the Syrian Army has also captured the last towns in the Anadan Plain, including Hraytan, Babis, and ‘Anadan." This map may be outdated already.

On https://syriancivilwarmap.com some rumors appeared that SAA and YPG are preparing a joint operation against jihadists north of Aleppo. Are there any other news sources that confirm this?

General artillery, SPGs, MLRS and long range ATGMs thread.
heretic88 replied to LoooSeR's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Well, Im not sure how it is in the K9, but the Msta-S doesnt have a true autoloader. The projectiles are loaded automatically, but the charges arent. They are always manually loaded. You need 2 loaders because the charges are located on both sides of the turret, with the breech and loading tray completely dividing the compartment, so no possibility to get to the other side. It isnt that bad as it sounds, because the charges are much lighter(from 12 to 16kg) than the projectiles (from 43 to 58kg), so 8 rpm is still possible. (I may be wrong, but as far as I know the PzH-2000 is similar in this regard, no true autoloader there as well)- 1,911 replies

heretic88 replied to LoooSeR's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Why would you need an extra? They are members of the crew by default. Both vehicles have a crew of 5. For 2S19, you only need extra 2 men when supplying the gun with ammo/charges from outside.- 1,911 replies
